SOURCE: my bmw 528I WON'T START AND WON'T JUMP START

Hi Lisa!
This possibly is a immobilizer fault and I would be looking at the Fob/Zapper. The way the immobilizer works is to disable the starter and ignition system.
These fobs have batteries so try replacing them, if you still have the same grief it may need re-coding.
Phone or pop into your local BMW dealer with the Log book/title and ask for their assistance, It shouldn't be expensive unless the vehicle needs to towed/trailered but I'm sure a Girley smile should persuade someone to visit you at home to code the fob to the car.
Hope this FixYa's problem!

You will have to have the dealer reset the security light to restart vehicle.Check all engine and chassie grounds because this is where the lighting would exit the vehicle. It sounds like a ground burnt through.

It seems to be an electrical short causing the alt to overcharge the battery. Check alt directly at the alt connector. Not over 14V running under load

When I start the car the cooling fan turns on and the charge battery light and airbag light come on. The airbag light flashes and when I rev the car the dash lights go brighter as well as the head lights...

sounds like you might have a overcharging regulator in the alternator, they will overcharge aswell as undercharge, have your charging system checked and if it's putting out more than 13.2 replace.

My car lights are dim

15v is too high...indicates a regulator failure...You may be boiling and overheating battery (will cause failure of even a new one) I would also check to see if overcharge has damaged any wiring. Check the main lead at the alternator and see if the plastic insulator around the connecting bolt is melted too.

Intermittently have to use charger to start.

the most common cause of this by far is lights left on by defective switchs, these include the map lights in the visors, the glove box light due to a defective switch, the trunk light and the hood light if equipped, check it at night and look for a faint glow, the other much less common cause is the alternator has a defective diode and allows a small current to pass to ground drawing the battery down..
