HI there .... by the sounds of what you are saying, you have a bad starter. One way to find out for sure is if you can get at the starter, tap it with a hammer and then try starting or have someone try to start the car while you are tapping on the starter. if the car starts then you have a bad starter and need to replace it. Hope this helps you out

Hi Lisa!
This possibly is a immobilizer fault and I would be looking at the Fob/Zapper. The way the immobilizer works is to disable the starter and ignition system.
These fobs have batteries so try replacing them, if you still have the same grief it may need re-coding.
Phone or pop into your local BMW dealer with the Log book/title and ask for their assistance, It shouldn't be expensive unless the vehicle needs to towed/trailered but I'm sure a Girley smile should persuade someone to visit you at home to code the fob to the car.
Hope this FixYa's problem!

It has to be a ground wire somewhere. Are there 2 ground wires to your battery?

Check both positive and negitive cables and make sure that they are still intacked and that there is no corotion on the connection.
Might be your ignition switch, or a fusable link from you battery. The switch makes more sense but i have no idea why it would screw up while you were driving. Usuall y that happens when you're starting it or shutting it off.
