Stuck relay or make sure coolant temp sensor plug is tight.

Any suggested fixes for this problem? Yeah , view a wiring diagram to see what all is involved in turning on the cooling fans an test with a DVOM - digital volt ohmmeter . Free wiring diagrams here http://www.bbbind.com/free-tsb/ Enter vehicle info. year make ,model an engine . Under system click on engine , then under subsystem click on cooling fans. Click the search button then the blue link . Looking at the diagram i see three relay's - fan control , high fan control , lo fan control . All three relay's are commanded on by ther PCM - engine computer . Checking for DTC'S - diagnostic trouble code's with a scan tool . Double check your work - pinched wiring etc...... check for high speed fan relay stuck contacts .

SOURCE: cooling fans in op until engine is shut down

Check out clarks-garage.com he has a complete troubleshooting guide for your cooling system along with a schematic. In short, check the low speed resistor on the firewall. Should be around one ohm.

PT Criuser has been running hot and now makes a loud chirping sound when cranked up . What causes this ?

my guess is your water pump is not working properly and the loud chirping sound is from the serpentine belt which also runs the water pump, alternator, ac and steering pump. first thing to check is coolant the cooling fan , thermostat , water pump in this order. chirping sound definitely come from the belt but the cause could come from any of the driven part but im zeroing in on the water pump because the car is running hot. old belt could also cause the chirping.

Then replace the thermostat, because if on lower hose not hot and on upper hose scalding hot = antifreeze flow blocked by the thermostat wich remains closed!!!

The fan on my 96 acura tl comes after i cut the car off and runs loudly

The fan on a 1996 Acura RL will normally run for a short period after the engine is shut off if the temperature sensor determines the engine is too hot. However, if it is running constantly and not shutting off after you shut off your engine, then you will need to replace the fan relay. It is most likely stuck in a closed position. If your fan does shut off after running for a period of time when you shut off the engine but you have a noisy fan, then most likey the fan bearings are wearing out and it is more cost-effective to replace the whole fan. Would a cooling fan failure cause antifreeze to spew out of the hose base? thought it was a faulty hose, replaced that and new antifreeze but the over heating continued even worse. I'm car challenged. ...

That could be caused by one or more of three things;
1) Bad Thermostat
2) Water pump problems
3) Yes the cooling fans not running properly and not cooling the water could do it.

I would start with the thermostat because that is the number one cause of this problem, remember you can buy a brand new thermostat and it be bad. Then check to see if the water is being pumped thru the motor by the water pump by removing the thermostat and just let the motor run and look in the radiator for circulation. Then watch when the cooling fan comes on and at what temperature because a faulty sensor could be the cause.

Sounds like the engine is running loud. Like the engine is boring a little especially when it gets over about 45 miles per hour. It has 149,000 miles on it. Checked all fluids and they are fine and have...

a loud engine can mean a lot of things, could be worn valves piston rings etc, I myself have round the clock engine and it was noisy, but i used a can of engine restorer, and noticed with in ten minutes the difference, its expensive but on an old warn engine it had done the trick. might even help yours, it does not really matter how meany oil changes you do an engine will wear a bit, if its pulling ok with no difference then its not a really serious problem, it could just be a blowing exhaust manifold or downpipe, or even a damaged air filter. check these parts look for cracks in the manifold as these when the engine gets hot will expand, even just a tinny crack can make a loud noise. check the the manifold seal to the engine is good, good way to test the seal is water in a squeezer bottle or spray, or even just look for blow marks on the engine. also check the engine oil cap, check it for a mayo looking oil color this can be a sign that the oil is getting damp or water is getting into the oil. this can also change the sound of the engine as the oil has become contaminated, oil can have a bit of water in there but its usually heated away with engine use. i hope this items help you find your problem.

Overheating just replased thermostat

Lets start with pressure testing the system and looking for leaks. ( you need a pressure tester for this)
After you do thistake accessory belt off of water pump
and with one hand grip the water pump pulley and see if you can get it to move up or down. If it move or is leaking coolant by the weep hole (Usually found under the pump)
replace it.
If no leaks were found and the pump didn't fail the bearing test( pulley movement)its time to test the fans.
remove the electrical connectors on each fan and make a pair of jumper cables and jump the fans directly to the battery. If they run swell if not replace the one that didn't run.
Next check coolant temperature sensor (CTS)and its circuitry for continuity and resistance. Use the Shop manual for testing of CTS, relay and its circuitry.
Replace items that fail testing.

I have a 2001 nissan sentra. My car fan is running and making loud noise. Also my temparture gage is going up but my car is not overheating.

small engine does take allot to overheat as long as the car stay in motions even though the cooling is not operating, if you were sitting in the heavy and stuck in traffic and the OAT is 98-100 degree with high humidity and running the AC, chances are the engine will over heat quickly. very rare the temp guage become faulty, I would to go ahead and repalce the temperature sensor which gives the guage the correct reading, if have high miles 75k or more replace thermostat which open and close when it reach proper tempature and thermostat switch which turn the cooling fan on and off. all three parts are fairly cheap to fix and replace. all three unit is very important to the engine cooling beside the oil.
