I cannot shift into park on my 2005 chevy colorado. Where is the ignition release or override button on this truck?

Make sure the brake lights are coming on if not the release solenoid that unlocks park gets no power and will not release the shifter from park position. Also check the owner's manual for a possible way to override the solenoid lock.

When the ignition switch is in the RUN or the START position, the current flows from the B/U Lamp fuse located in the underhood bussed electrical center (UBEC) through CKT 839 (PNK) to the park/neutral position switch. With the transmission in the PARK position, the current flows to the BTSI fuse located in the underhood bussed electrical center (UBEC) through CKT 275 (LT GRN). The current then flows to the TCC/stoplamp switch through CKT 584 (LT GRN/BLK). The current continues to the BTSI solenoid through CKT 1135 (DK GRN/WHT). The ground path is provided through CKT 1850 (BLK) to G207. When the brake pedal is depressed, the normally closed contacts in the TCC/stoplamp switch open and the current flow is interrupted. When the current flow is interrupted, the BTSI solenoid de-energizes. The transmission may then shift to another gear. When the transmission shifts to another gear (except PARK), the contacts in the park/neutral position switch open. This condition stops the current flow to energize the solenoid when the brake pedal releases.

got A/T? or M/T both auto and stick shift have lockout.

if the key gets locked too, that tells you what is bad , on newer jeeps

this feature (pain) has many failure points.
any cable that jams, there are 2 , one to tranny or ignition
switch. and the brake solenoid unlocker in shift handle.
and the button, to unluck shifter, brake switch (no brake lights/)
to diagnosis it is easy , dismantle the console at shifter
then disconnect cables to find if one is stuck, (easy huh?)
and defeat the solenoid, by hand or 12v applied. and check the button
that it does in fact release.
NOT PARK LOCKOUT: (for if not on flat ground?)
reason 2 , driver, parked on a hill with tire to curb and did so
not setting brakes first (or bad ebrake ) and now the tranny parking
pawl is jammed , opps. so wiggle the steering and wiggle shifter,
or have some one push car forward (parked up hill on right) to release
parking pawl. (or gorilla it, ask bubba to muscle it out of park.)
if down hill , well, you get the idea..... pain.. gotta love A/Ts not.

WHERE YOUR SHIFTER IS YOU WILL HAVE TO TAKE IT APART ..MAYBE THE RUBBER BOOT IS IT THE WAY,OR THE SHIFT LOCK SELINOID WHENT BAD

Sounds like it needs a shift cable adjustment and or replacement

Ignition Switch Adjustment

When you turn ignition on it releases a cable that is attached to the shifter also the shifter has a solenoid attached to it that is released when you step on the brake. Both times that I had the problem of button stuck and cant shift out of park the solenoid was sticking and wouldnt release .

I initially tried to override the Brake / Transmission switch by disconnecting the battery but that did not work. I solved the problem by disconnecting the wiring from the actual gearbox, and manually moving the linkage at the gearbox. After doing that everything was re-connected and now works fine.
