Plug a suitable diagnostic device into the obd port and select the section dealing with fuel trim and read off the results - I can't help more than that because I don't have a complete understanding of how to interpret them.
I think the fuel trim is the difference between the expected injection duration and the actual duration. I also think it is of a somewhat general usefulness, providing strong clues of faults elsewhere as well as possibly the injectors themselves.

It should be on the drivers side and it looks like the oil dipstick. Usually the top of the handle is shaped like a " T ". Most of the time it will be yellow and say trans on it. It may be lower than the oil dipstick. Good luck.

The remote won't ework because the problem is in the vehicle. Just for test purposes and possible remedy. Remove and clean the negative battery cable. Ensure a clean , tight connection. Then find the body ground. Yhis ground is locted usually at the top rear of the engine. .I's a snall stainless steel strap bolted to the engine and fire wall, This must olsobe clean with a good contack. Might as well clean the + cable and connection on the battery while you are there. Good luck and keep me posted olease. Good Luck, Ned_

I had the SAME problem...do you smell any fuel smells? Is your car getting less MPG and is does it have less excelleration? It is the Fuel Injector(s)...
Most likely...one or more has gone bad, I believe this is yet another common problem with the Saturn ION...hhhhmmmm I wonder why they went out of business...

When this happened to mine it ended up being a bad door switch. The alarm, dome/map lights and electric door locks are all connected to the door switches. It cost $65 for diagnosis, parts and labor at Saturn of South Burlington VT
