Sounds like the diaphragm o ring that engages the forward clutch pack is worn, would recommend pulling out transmission and sending it to a specialist. It’s a very complicated job

SOURCE: 2004 ford explorer gas pedal dosen't work even after replacing it

I had this problem too with my 2004 Explorer
Don't know if it had anything to do with it,but i had washed down the engine compartment the previous afternoon. After having it towed to the dealership they told me it was the throttle body. They replaced it and all is good

SOURCE: 2000 Subaru Outback transmission problem

After a good deal of research and several shops suggesting a rebuild of the transmission, I decided to have the trans fluid and filters changed before doing anything. It was a tough call because it could have been a waste of $125. As soon as the spin off filter was removed you could see it was blocked. So the hydraulic pressure in the system was way down, still enough to engage reverse and enough to work all the shifts, but not enough to engage forward without a slight tap on the accelerator.

My Subaru has 240 000 km on it and I suppose the clutch pack rebuild wouldn't hurt, but as it is now it engages quickly and shifts up are noticeably smoother.

May not be the solution for every case, but it solved my situation.

SOURCE: 1994 ford explorer dies while driving

Easy Fix! I know exactly what ur talking about, had the same problem for ******* ever, and its not the fuel pump, trust me!!! and it will cost you absolutely nothing to fix! I don't know what the hell they're called exactly, but on the right side of your engine there's a black box, next to where you put the coolant in, with fuses in it. They look like one inch cubes and will say Ford right on top. One of them is for the fuel pump. Try switching it with one of the others, or just switching all of them around and ur car will fire up, but the one that's not working will cause something else not to work properly, but at least u'll now what the problem is. Than just do what I did: take one with you and go to a junk yard and pull out a bunch, they're the same on many ford vehicles, even the newer ones, like 2000, not just the explorer. Make sure its the same one, pull out a bunch, put em in ur pocket and leave without paying, nobody will notice anyways, but they're tricky to find at a parts store, surprisingly. When ur car is running beatiful again, come back to this post and tell me if I was right! God knows how many ours I spent in that car stranded, waiting for it to fire up. Sometimes it'd be 5 minutes, sometimes an hour, sometimes hours, even days. Never knew when it would or wouldn't. Thought is was the starter too! If it works, tell me!!!

Testimonial: "you have helped me out so so much you were exactly right and also it happened to my sons dodge neon and it was the same solution thank you so so much "

SOURCE: My 1999 ford explorer will not go into park;all other gears work

DIsconnext and reconnect the linkage at the transmission. You may want top replace the linkage cable all together. Make sure you set the parking break and block the tires

Car will shift into gears fine but when in drive or reverse the car will not give gas it just revs but it will run fine in d2 what could the solution be

Check transmission fluid, add if required - also take note of the color and smell of the fluid on the dip stick. If it has grayish black particulate or smells like burnt wiring you most likely have burnt up clutch packs in the transmission. Good luck.

My 1997 Ford Explorer just stopped in it's place when I was driving it. I would put it into drive and put my foot on the gas and it would not move and I tried to put it in reverse and it would do the same...

tranny is getting ready to die. do you smell any tranny fluids or see any red fluid spots on the driveway? before panic sets in , I would first go to autozone and buy a can of transmission doctor. add it and see if any changes. if there are changes for the better then sounds like a good fluid fush and filter change may be the sure fix.

I need help truck start fine when i put in reverse no probleme but when i put in drive stall immediatly

Check the trans fluid with the dipstick, the explorers came with 2 different trannys, one doesn't have a dipstick. But if you can check it, make sure the level is good and condition is ok, not black or burnt. If you have a sealed trans, make sure there is no leaks, if there is, fix the leak and refill at the pan. If the trans fluid is not a problem, more testing will have to be done.
