Voltage regulator in the alternator may be bad. Remove the alternator and have it tested at your local parts store.

SOURCE: Acually it's a 2004 Silverado Speedometer problem

Hello all,
It's hard to believe that a company we all support (and used to love) would leave us in the dust and turn it back on us. It is so obvious they have a speedo cluster defect and expect us to pay for their incompetence!!!!
And they actually want us, the people they are burning of hard earned dollars, to bail them out!!!
YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If you dig, you will find unimaginable amounts of people with this same problem on the internet and they know it.

Shame on them, and on us, if we give them another chance to do it to us again. They sit in their offices of gold and wonder why the empire is failing, dah!!! You can only rip people off for so long before it will bite you back.

They expect to have a long term business with short term business pricipals, dah again!!!
If you have a problem as I do, call 1-866-0405 or log on to www.speedometersettlement.com for info regarding your bogus speedo.

Is america producing anything of quality anymore?

SOURCE: 1995 honda accord speedometer and odometer not working

Sounds like either your speedometer cable, your nylon gear on the side of the tranny where the cable ties in, or the odometer itself is shot. One of those three will set you straight. If you are able, remove the cluster, take the cable off the back, and pull it out of the sheath. You will see if its broken or not from there. If not, slide it back into the sheath, then you have to find out where the sheath meets the tranny, and pull it off of there. Then, you can get someone else to watch the speedo as you turn the cable from the bottom. If it works, great, if not, then its your cluster/odometer/speedo. If it does work, the small gear in the transmission is shot.

SOURCE: Speedometer Needle for Hyundai 2004 Accent

If your transmission fluid level is okay, then you need a new speedometer cable. Its not terribly difficult to replace, but it does require you to pull the instrument cluster. A local Hyundai dealership might be willing to photocopy the specific speedometer cable replacement instructions out of the 2004 Accent shop manual.

SOURCE: 2004 chrysler pacifica AWD automatic. need to know

It is part of the range sensor or PRNDL switch, if you like. It's the plug that comes out right next to the selector shaft on the front driver's side of the tranny. You will find several pins in the connector, but looking at it you will find that there is one pin missing. The missing one is #2, the one to the left is #1. The pin all the way to the right on that row is #5, the Park/Neut pin.

SOURCE: 96 volvo 850 speedometer somtimes works then it drops to 0

Two questions: Is your odometer working? If not then it's probably a broken gear by the stepper motor that Emissionwiz mentioned. Is your ABS and/or TRACS light on intermittently or constantly. If so that is a common sign your ABS control module has gone or is going bad. This usually happens before the speedometer starts acting up. Either one of these will start intermittently and finally end up with the speedometer not functioning at all, and both are pretty common failures with this model.

2004 Chrysler Pacifica speedometer reads 20-30mph more than actual speed. Had new alternator put in from bearings in alternator were bad. Speedometer issue doesn't happen in neutral.

Info I have leads to alternator but have video which show how you can test alternator. One way shows to pull the wire connector off alternator the one which is plugged in, see if the speedometer is corrected. Diodes in alternator could have a problem you can check at battery with AC voltage check on volt meter. Output speed sensor on transmission reads in AC voltage and diodes in alternator could be putting out to much AC voltage wave. I know you said you put in a new alternator, you may want to take back to dealer and have retested.

Why does my 2004 grand cherokee speedometer suddenly rests at 10 mph instead of 0

Somehow the cable and assembly for the speedometer has become dis calibrated for lack of a better word, U might want to check if the meter has a calibration adjustment on it and if so resetting it for zero with a still vehicle.

My 2004 chrysler pacifica will not start. it cant be the battery because i had it jumped with my other car for about 15 min. and nothing. then when i just gave up. i but the gear in neutral, and it...

It still could be the battery, your trying to jump the car for 15 minutes would have given it a partial charge. BUT I would suspect the park/neutral switch. So I would suggest that you "play" with trying to start your vehicle in park, then neutral, park, then neutral and see what happens.

neutral run relay ? no such thing . park neutral safety switch on the transmission , have B+ voltage on one side if the switch is in park or neutral B+ voltage will pass through to the PCM - engine computer . If the PCM see's this B+ input it will energize the starter notor relay located in the under hood fuse / relay box . This will send B+ voltage to the S terminal on the starter solenoid . If you hear a click under the hood , an it is the starter solenoid . You could have a bad starter , or a voltage drop in the cables or battery connections . Doing a voltage drop test on the starting circuit is the thing to do first . Starter Voltage Drop You can find the starter 07 Chrysler Pacifica AWD 4 0 starter replacement yours is in the same place

Speedometer does not read properly

Sounds like you may have to replace the speedo unit. It sounds like there is a problem with resistance in the printed circuit. It can be repaired, but it is cheaper to replace.
