Starting Problems Battery, starter, alternator, spark plugs are all new and engine will not crank. When key is turned, there is a VERY faint click and nothing else. I can have someone turn the key while I use a screwdriver on the starter solenoid to bridge and it starts no problems. What is next on the list of things I can do to get my beloved Jeep on the road again? Thanks for any help!

Try putting your key in the driver's side door, turn key to the left, then to the right and back to the left again. This should leave the door in the unlocked position. Now insert key in ignition and see if it starts. This worked for us, jeep apparently had a security system on it and we had no keyless remote that came with when we bought it.

Try the earth and main active leads to the starter motor. Or If you are shorting the solenoid and it starts, there will be a problem with either the active wire from the ignition switch or a poor earth. Check what voltage you are getting to the solenoid from the ignition switch when someone turns the switch on.

Check the small wire on the starter to see if you are getting 12v there with the key turned. If you are, then it is possible that the starter (&or solenoid) that checked out good last year is not good now. If no power at small wire, then check neutral safety switch.

Your starter needs a "makeover". try to clean or change the brushes in the starter.

a cheap and simple solution, is to make the cables on the starter longer, and attach them to a button in you car. If you choose that solution, you just have to turn on the ignition, and then push the button you have connected the starter cables to.

This means it is the solenoid. But usually on those the starter and solenoid are one unit. They can be purchased individually, but it is usually almost as expensive as replacing the whole unit.

What else can I ck-sounds like something so simple keeping my car from starting.

You have a lot going on here , let's clarify a little ! The engine cranks over when you turn the key ? You sure have been busy replacing parts ! If it cranks over did you check for spark at the spark plugs ? An did you test for fuel pressure ? an does it have compression ? No Start Diagnostic Basics EricTheCarGuy

93 Geo Storm standard Transmission 1.6 Engine Lately I have to push start it Replaced ignition switch Checked all the fuses Starters good Help 48 disabled female

bad fuel, is it old? fuel.
needs tuneup, air cleaner and spark plugs , at least.
if the starter cranks fast and dont' start,
but does push started. that means the spark is weak
when cranking, and marginal spark plugs can do that.
this car is really (under Geo snake skins) a
an Isuzu Impulse
and Isuzu is defunct there too. (double bad)

now my real guess......analysis...
im not sure your order stated.
the engine would not crank over with a key before the new switch or after?
and "starters good", does that mean , it still fails to crank start with key
but the hot wiring of starter does?
try this:
tell use what happens when you turn the key, is best.
I turn the key, and i get the dash board to light up,
lots of lights. and the CEL LaMP GLOWS.
the CEL lamp, means the ENGINE brain is alive.
then you turn the key to cranks (start) position.
  1. nothing happens.
  2. it only clicks
  3. it cranks slowly,
  4. it cranks fast, just like a new car does. fast. cranking.

1,2,3,4.?

and does jumper cable starts work>?
if this works , your battery is low. , discharged or dead, or bad.
if the battery keeps going low, its bad, or the alternator fails to charge the battery, or you have phantom drains , discharging it as you sleep.

my guess, (based on most common)
is #3, slow cranks, and spark plugs are long since gone.(fouled and gaps no longer in spec>)

My 2000 cadillac deville wont start. I bought a new battery. New alternator and a new ground wire under the hood. My starter was tested and is good. Ive been trying to jump it off andnothing will come on

On your car the crank circuit includes a crank fuse, the theft deterrent relay, the key switch, and the PCM in addition to the starter itself.
All of these components would need to be tested to find the problem.

My car wont start. I replaced my battery but it still wont start. Tested the alternator and it is good. Something might be draining the battery but not sure what?

Does the engine spin over and not start? Or turn the key and nothing happens?
New spark plugs and wires won't have anything to do with the starter and battery keeping the engine from spinning when you turn the key.
Need more specific explanation. Thanks,
Scott

My mazda mpv has trouble starting

Not sure what you are describing as the sound, but it could be a faulty starter. Sometimes the brushes in the starter stick and you have to "bump" the starter to get them to make contact.
A mechanic would check for voltage at the starter.

2007 hhr will ONLY start on 5th crank. key fob broken

Car not starting or turning over indicates towards multiple possibilities. It can be issue with battery or weak battery. But if battery checks out ok, then it can be starter issue or faulty alternator or problem with low fuel pressure or no spark at spark plugs due to dirty spark plugs or faulty ignition coil or injectors getting cracked or dirty and needs to be cleaned.

To confirm the problem, the basic troubleshooting is required.

Check ALL your connections. Take each Batt terminal off and scrape them or buy a Batt. brush from parts store/cheap 7 bucks. If you can jump it it may be the Batt. has just gone.. Clicking means you have a bad connection or the Batt is shot.

Car will not crank sometimes unless you turn the key many times.

Check battery connections. Sometimes a weak connection will fail under very high loads like starting.
