Hyundai Elantra 2002 Automatic keeps cutting out

I've just bought a very clean used Hyundai Elantra 2002 automatic. Only 109k on the clock. Car has run fine for the first week but then it kept cutting out yesterday whilst my wife was driving it. No real pattern but cut out 3 time in the space of 15km. Car restarted no problem each time. It was left at the side of the road for 3 hours when I then went and collected it and drove it 30km home, without any cut off or issues. No warning lights, not over heating, just a clean cut out. Any advice much welcome!

SOURCE: Car cuts off!!!?????

This happened to me with my Ford Focus. Diagnostic with onboard computer said key problem, as in the chip in the key had sent incorrect alarm signal and that was why engine had cut.
Solution? New key from car dealership. Problem solved.

SOURCE: Mazda Tribute 2002 engine cuts out randomly

I had a Mazda 626 with a similar problem, the car seemed to 'shut down' with no warning, even at highway speeds, as if I just turned the ignition key to 'Off'; After trying to fix it unsuccessfully by replacing several electrical parts, the problem was found to be a defective ignition switch, it was replaced and the problem went away.

SOURCE: when i start my car it just cuts off again this happens a few times then works fine, also after a few miles of driving the abs warning light comes on my car is an N reg audi A4 automatic 1.8

Hi, I had the same problem. it is the imoboliser, it reads a code in your key while starting. you need to get the code in the key reprogramed. if that wont work you will need to get a new ignition barrel. Audi dealer will reprogram your key.

On My 2002 Hyundai Elantra after 5-10 min of driving fast and hard accelaration will downshift the transmission. What can cause that,?Check engine light is not on...

Most modern automatic transmissions have a chip in them that will prevent the car from downshifting, say, into first gear when you're moving at 60 mph. Still, I wouldn't try it. When climbing a hill, only downshift if the AT can't decide which gear to be in and switches back and forth--choose the lower one. When descending use brakes to decelerate. However, once you've braked, do use a low gear to coast in, to prevent you from freely accelerating down the hill.
