My 2000 dodge neon violently pulls back (like if something was pulling in the opposite direction)when I accelerate (trying to pass a vehicle)but when I drive at a normal accelerations it does fine it's an automatic.
If the car is not getting into passing gear at all, check the kickdown cable from the throttle body to the transmission, to see if it's broken or binding. Also check the throttle body itself for smooth operation.
If those are okay, then check the throttle position sensor for proper output voltage. That should have thrown error code 24 if it failed.
As you pointed out, your engine has a rev limiter to prevent engine
overspeed. As you approach redline rpm's, it will cut the fuel supply. If this is happening at lower rpm's than it should, then the limiter itself could be in trouble.
I hope this helps.

I just found this site please keep in mind.yes it is a change in the cars behavior, about 7 months ago it started and also with a check engine light on, I went to autozone to see if they could figure out what was wrong, they put it on a tester and got a code which I do not remember, but I do remember that it was supposivly for the transmission nuetral switch which they gave me but it was the wrong part, sorry just a little history on the situation,no the engine does not suddenly accelerate when this happen, its like it bogs down, might be a better description. When I rev the engine in a high rpm in the park gear it does this but I think it is normal because of the governer chip, its done this ever since i had it, I haven't done it alot at all just a couple of times.but that skinda what it does now when I try to accelerate at a higher rpm while driving.I hope thats i little better.Thank You.
wow thank you lee2fixit I think thats good possibilty I'm definetly gonna check that out, thank you for your fast and knowledgable response.
Is this a change in the car's behavior, or has it always done it? Does the engine suddenly accelerate when this happens?
