Fog lights not turning on

I have just installed a factory gmc fog light kit for a 2003 sierra. It came with all items needed, ie. wire harness, relay, lights, etc. I followed all directions and double checked all connections. I have a good ground. The fog light switch in the cab stays lite all the time and the fog lights will not work. I heard the relay click when I was hooking up the ground wire. Was it supposed to do that? Why will they not work. I know that the headlamps need to be on. The cargo light works though. Thanks

Thanks for the reply, I do not have a fax machine : ( The kit had the replacement switch for cargo to cargo and foglight. The wiring diagram showed to plug in the relay into the bec at the fog light terminal. Then you had to plug in the supplied wire from the harness into terminal D6 in the bottom of the bec. I did the following and then used a self tapping screw to fasten the supplied ground wire in the harness. I plugged in the foglights, again the kit had all the factory connections. I know that it is not allowed to have the foglights working with the high beams. This is why I went with the factory kit to make everything legal. The relay clicked right away and I noticed the light on the switch was on. This is where I'm stuck. The light does not go out. For now I removed the relay and fog light fuse to be safe. I was told at the dealer that the bcm did not have to be reprogrammed. Are they wrong? Thanks again R

O.K. I found out the problem. The picture in the instructions is wrong. It shows the supply wire going to A4 not D6. The written part is right. D6 is the third terminal from the left on the top row of the bec main light harness block. ( that's the green one ) On 2003 and later gm trucks, the bcm does not need to be reprogrammed. Once I corrected the terminal, the foglights worked. The gm kit fits great with all you need for a factory fit/finish. To bad they haven't realized the error in the instructions.

Hello, I'm on Vancouver Island in British Columbia, Canada. I forgot to mention to you that the cargo/foglight switch was a direct plug in replacement. It works exactly as you mentioned. Thanks! Now all I need to do is get them aligned : ) The hardest part of the install was working on my back attaching the lamps outside of the fact of the D6 terminal connection. This is a great site and have told many about it. R

Thanks, I have a level floor in my garage and have used the back wall with the drywall on it to align lights on other vehicles. I checked the tire pressure and there is no load in the box of the truck. Just waiting till it gets dark : ) I wish more people would properly adjust their lights instead of blinding the oncoming drivers. Nice chatting with you. We finally got our sun on this side of the west coast!!

The light on the switch should only be on when the fog lites are ON. must not be finctional with high beams and controlled seperately from headlamps. Can you fax me the diagram that came with the kit and a drawing of hw you have wired it? Phone 909-630-3192 -cell

Sounds good to me except, the switch light shout be on the relay primary circiut and light off until you turn it on. When you turn the switch on, it lights up and energizes the relay, the relay closes and completes the secondary circiut for ythe fog lights. VIOLA' I have a silverado. done deal thanks

fREAT!. oN ALIGNING THEM What I do is stand in front of one at a time with a piece of cardboard marked between 1/4 and 2/3rd up. horizontally ahn up the center verticall. stand with board standing or held with it siting on the ground. This is your gauge to set them the same.. adjust tto have hotest point of light hit the same spot but no higher than halfway up your gauge. Fog lights are mos effective below the fog line. right? good luck my friend..

Does a 2000 f 250 have a connection for fog lights in the wiring harness if it did not come with fog lights

There may be a connection in the harness or a place to connect the cabling, but what you'll find out is that the light switch is different for the trucks that have fog lights from the factory. They have a pull-to-activate function for the fog lights and an indicator led on the switch that shows the fogs are illuminated.
I would suggest purchasing an aftermarket fog lamp kit with the entire package...switch, wires, relay etc..cheaper in the long run... not too hard to wire on these either...the toughest part is feeding a wire thru the firewall... but even that's not too difficult.
Hope this helps...

Right side front light harness plug

That is exactly what it is. Most foglights connect to one connector

What is the capped off plug(blue) on right hand side of light harness on 2003 sierra used for. is this for fog light connection. there is not one on the left side.

The blue wire is to disengage disc brakes on your trailer. It is wired to your back up lights and has power only when you put it into REV

Fog Lights won't work

Definitely a ground. Clean everything with light sandpaper. Follow any/all wires and see where it grounds, clean there too. If all else fails, run a new ground wire from the frame to the exact spot you got the bulbs to work (a workaround that usually remains permanent on my cars!).
