It sounds like the Transmission line has a leak. Check the transmission line from the transmission to the radiator. You have two steel lines which runs to and from the transmission to the transmission cooler in the radiator. The line could be corroded and may need to be replaced, good luck and service the transmission too. The transmission on the transport are know to have problems when ran low on fluid or dirty transmission filter.
Good luck and hope this helps.

98 Pontiac grand Prix 3.8, over heating, antifreeze disappearing, transmission slipping, is it possible for transmission fluid to leak into the radiator?

Yes, your transmission cooler is inside of the side tank of the radiator. If your coolant looks like pink sludg, then there is a good chance that you need your cooling system and trans fuid flushed and a new radiator installed.

Automatic Transmission Problems

  1. Check the transmission fluid level, if it's low, you have a leak & Look for fluids that have leaked on the ground below the transmission. Check the transmission case as well. Fluid can leak from seals, gaskets, fluid cooler and lines. Pinpoint the exact source of the leak to make proper repairs.
  2. Place a few drops of transmission fluid on a white paper towel. Red or light brown fluid that spreads easily over the towel is in good condition. Dark brown or black fluid that is gooey or thick fluid needs replacing to allow proper pressure and lubrication within the transmission.
  3. Replace the fluid filter to ensure it's in good working order. Check the old filter for metal shavings, which are a sign of wear and require a fluid flush.
  4. Look at your check engine light to verify it has not come on. If the check engine is on, take the car to a mechanic who can pull the code and pinpoint the problem. Electronic transmissions can detect even small faults in operation, and you may want to drive the car to verify that the problem was not a one-time or erroneous error.
  5. Seek the assistance of a professional if the car is no longer going into gear, slipping out of gear while driving or a substantial amount of fluid is leaking. Fixing a transmission problem on your car early can save you money and help keep you on the road for a long time to come.

Automatic transmission seem to be slipping engine light is on could it be fluid? seems to be first gear.

very likely probably gear ratio error. Nag trans connector plug seals leak all the time take a peak under the car at the trans pan and look for evidence of red trans fluid on the pan. If so the plug seal is leaking.

1998 Chrysler Grand Voyager Automatic gear box slipping

If the fluid is full , it sounds like the trans pump is loosing prime. If it is there will be a code set. The code will not always turn on the light. Go have the codes checked. If it does have a loss of prime code in the trans computor and the fluid is full then you will need the trans pump replaced

Dip stick tube has a rubber boot it slips thru, that seals it to trans. If its got a kick down cable there is a rubber o ring on that too, or front pump seal on trans is leaking.

1998 SUNFIRE GT TRANSMISSION PROBLEM

There are 3 transmissions that could be in your car,the 3 speed auto and 4 speed auto overdrive, and of course the manual 5 speed. The 3 speed is designated the 3T40,the 4 speed auto is the 4T40E trans. To check the fluid level, first, the car has to be warmed up to at least 100 degrees Fahrenheit. The car has to be raised in the air,as there is a steel plug in the trans case that has to be removed to check the fluid level. The plug takes an 11 mm or 7/16" socket or wrench and is located on the passenger side of the trans case, near where the passenger side axle engages into the trans. The procedure is to warm the car up to at least 100 degrees, engage the shifter into each gear selection pausing for about 5 seconds in each gear, then remove the plug.If fluid drips out,it is full.If no fluid drips out,add fluid through the top of the trans after removing the red plastic cap,and make sure to use a long funnel to avoid a mess.Add fluid until it drips out the hole. When done, replace the plug and cap.Just a note,a transmission does not "use" fluid like an engine uses oil.If you have to add fluid, that means there is a leak that needs to be repaired.Good luck
