If the timing chain has jumped will the engine still run well while in park or neutral at both high and low rpm ?

Try changing the fuel filter, and if that doesn't help, get back to me.

Better check the timing then. Timing chain may have jumped.

Yes it can. Only way to check is with a timing light. If, when you point the light at the timing mark, the mark is jumping around, you have a problem. The mark should stay pretty much in one position.

You might want to check closely for vacuum leaks, too. Especially the intake. Dump some hot soapy water along your intake gaskets when it's running. If it bubbles, you have a leak. Check all the hoses with the engine running. They may be cracked or loose too.

85 ford f150 302 v8 2val carb stall when put in gear

How long since a tune-up? Have you checked the timing? How many miles on engine? How is your cylinder compression?
There isn't much load on engine in park or neutral. When you put it in gear, there is a load on the engine. With carbed engine 6--8 psi fuel pressure. Crub idle in drive, 575 rpms. With a high mileage engine, that idle speed may not work. Is there an idle screw on the carb, where you can up the idle to keep it from stalling, in gear? Of course if you do that, when you put it in park or neutral the idle is going to go high, I know it's a pain. If your engine is in poor shape, your probably going to have a tough time, getting it to run correctly. Just my opinion.

Have a 1993 ford explore six cyl starts good but put in gear a it stall right away ?

In park or neutral not much load on the engine, when you put it in gear, there is a load. How may miles on the engine? How long since a tune-up? Any applicable trouble codes? Check and clean the idle air system and throttle body, see if it helps? Check cylinder compression. If the compression is way low, it may be tough trying to get it to run correctly.
In the old days, carbed engine, no computer, sometimes we'd set the idle in drive, at least it was driveable, it wouldn't die every time you stopped at a stop sign or red light. Yeah, when you put in park or neutral, the rpms would go high. Sometimes, your just trying to keep it on the road, if possible.
