More likely damaged alternator and ECM.check fuses to alternator and battery check fuse to ignition switch to battery power feed to alternator if you dont see any radio or dash lights display.NEVER NEVER HOOK BATTERY CABLES WRONG WAY.BECAUSE YOU CAN DAMAGE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM.

Hi, first thing to do and if you know location of the fuse box take light tester and test each fuse may you find some fuses blew. change theme first. if you change the fuses and the the problem for each item you describe still on that mean damage went to the items you say.

ok we will try to make this as painless as possible..things do happen and his heart was in the right place..first need to test the alternator as the diodes may have all blown.. if its bad, it needs replaced to save some bucks you can get used parts from a salvage yard but test before putting them on..as ar as wiring..check the fuseable link wires in the harness.. these are usually close to the battery positive and are about 6 inches long.. they are normally a special wire that will burn in half before losing the entire wiring.. also be looking at the internal circuit breakers..this will be process of elimination one at a time..I am not sure about any computer damages tho.. may need another one..if the power steering is electric motor assist then the motor itself may be damaged..you can check it separately with a ten amp charger that should power it up independently..good luck..keep your chin up too okay??

My diesel engine on my VW TDI Jetta is having a hard time turning over. It takes forever to start and seems to be getting worse.

Have someone replace your fuel filters ($$$) and put a bottle of "Lucas Diesel Additive" available at Advance Auto Parts $8
P.S. If you have PREMIUM Diesel available in your area (BP-Chevron) run that for a couple of tanks.
Good Luck

Radio

My son has a 2004 Volkswagon Jetta that had a dead radio. It occurred after my daughter -in- law experienced a dead battery, requiring a jump start. The radio was totally dead. All fuses in the fuse panel were checked first. My local Volkswagon service center was kind enough to assist me in removing the radio from the instrument panel (special "key" required) free of charge. In the back of the radio is a 10-amp mini fuse that was blown. Check it out before you spend megabucks replacing anything else.
