Draining battery hi i had a quick question, i have a 95 mazda 626 and im having a problem with the battery draining. I had the alternator replaced and actually had the old tested and both turned out fine. Before when i drove and then come to a stop the abs light would start flashing and the rpms would drop and the car would shut off, normally it would start right back up but would repeat this a few times. Now the battery is draining completely, when i come to a stop if the car shuts off it will not start without a jump. Ive had a few people look at it and were all stumped! please help!! :) thanks! Lisa.

SOURCE: jeep grand cherokee 97 shutting off while driving

It may not be the same problem But, My Jeep would quit until it cooled down and then I could start it and it would run again. Did this on and off for weeks. Turned out that it was the sending unit in the fuel tank. Cold fuel, no problem. warm fuel it would shut off. Cost me $500. Hope this helps, Good Luck

SOURCE: 1999 bmw 528i replaced battery and alternator

Replace your battery when its being tested there not testing it under a heavy enough load. A battery could have a dead cell in it and still show good on the charger. I've had that problem a few times.

It can be as simple as the funny belt tensioner on the alternator!

I hope you got a simple volt meter to check the voltage.

12.8-13.6V is a health battery.

Get someone to help you to put tension on alt. belt.

If it does not look good then change it.

Double check all belts.

The should not give over 1/2" I like to keep them 1/3" of less.

Tighten all connections.

Pull spark plug cap one at at time to check for corrosion.

The coil can cause a lot of problem.

Spend time to grounding and secure all coil boot.

Good luck

SOURCE: 87 f250 drained brand new battery

I would first have the alternator checked by an auto electrician to ensure it is working correctly and is providing the correct volume of current. It may be faulty and when driving you will be drawing battery power instead of power from the alternator to run the electrics. This will drain the battery.

Alternators do not last forever and if you are still running the original unit it is likely to be on it's last legs and you will need a replacement unit.

How to replace an alternator on mazda 626 1999

OK, This worked well for me. Easier than some solutions I read on the internet.
This method does not require getting under the car.
1. Loosen the 17mm bolt on the belt tensioner pulley.
2. Turn the tension screw (10mm) conuter clockwise to losen the belt.
3. Remove the Serpentine belt.
4. Drain and remove the radiator. Catch the coolant, filter and reuse.
5. Remove the negative battery cable from the battery.
6. Remove the battery cable from the alternator and uclip the control connector.
7. Remove the top alternator support bolt.
8. Losen the bottom alternator support bolt. It will not come out. The support
bracket is a slot, not hole. The alternator bolt and all will slide out of the slot
directly toward the front of the car.
9. Lift the alternator out between the engine and AC condensor.
10. Reverse the procedure to install the new alternator.

Check the voltage regulator if there's coming out of it.
you may have a good alternator but if nothing goes at
the alternator, then, it results to a drained battery. Just
replace your regulator, if this is not working.

Im trying to replace the alternator on a 1999 Mazda 626

Yes, I experienced the same thing with mine... you have to losen the 2 motor mounts on that side and lift the motor up about 3 ". I worked at a garage so I had access to an engine hoist. Try using a jack from underneath. Nice engineering from Mazda!!!

1993 mazda 626 battery goes dead and it overheats

That second Problem IS The Waterpump. As for the First Problem, You may need to replace the Belt and Belt Tensioner. If the Tensioner is Bad it will allow the Belt to slip and will Not allow the Alternator to Recharge the Battery. For that Matter it Could cause the Overheating Also. I would go with the Belt and Tensioner First and see where you are.

Charge light flashes and becomes solid when my mazda 626 idles

If the charge light is flashing, then staying on, there is something wrong w/ the charging system. Most parts stores offer a free check of your charging system. Have it checked out, there's a good chance u need a new alternator. Let me know what u find. Good luck!
