Buick Regal dying

I have a 1998 Buick Regal GS supercharged. Engine starts and runs about 5 seconds then dies. Checked fuel pressure, turn key on, engine off, fuel pressure goes to 45 psi. Start engine, fuel pressure steadily drops to 20 lbs & engine dies. Fuel pump relay & fuse are good. Fuel lines look good ft to rear. Checked for power at fuel pump harness near fuel tank. Solid grey wire on 7 wire terminal has powere. Key on engine off power goes out when engine starts. Have replaced oil sending unit.
Any suggestions?

Scanned computer, had no codes. Friend said to check reading on MAP sensor, said 90 or over KPA key on engine off through data stream would indicate bad macomputer uses this information to activate fuel relay speed control. KPA was 96, so had to order from dealer the map sensor & ordered a resister also, or what their calling a resister kit. You said resister is outside ft frame rail, is this behind inner fender near windsheild washer tank?

I found it! Looks like an old ballast resister. Twisted wires together...voilaaaa! Starts and stays running like a charm, now if I can return those parts ordered in from the dealer!
    Thanks so much!!!!!!

I have a wiring diagram for the "1" engine that shows a very elaborate fuel pump relay, actually two relays in one, one of them is called the "fuel pump speed control relay". This system utilizes a dropping resistor that is mounted "outside the right front frame rail" I'm kind of thinking that this system has a reduced current mode for normal driving and a boosted mode. It might be an idea to chase down this resistor and check it along with the associated wiring and connections. Also, it could well be a bad relay and when you're checking it you see the start up signal that would use the boosted mode, but when it switches over to the normal side, it's failing. I would try a new fuel pump relay, if it's this dual stage unit. it's going to be expensive.

Oil pressure is up and down but engine is running fine not losing power or making any noises would you say oil sending unit or oil pump?

Oil sending unit or oil pump??? It does not lose power or make any noises when all this is going on.

You have a problem in the fuel pump relay circuit for sure then. I'm betting the relay, but it could be that dropping resistor.

Just checking in, any further progress on the no-start, compression numbers?

Where is the fuel pressure regulator located on a 99 regal gs supercharged

should be on the fuel rail, take the plastic engine cover off and you should see the injector rails on either side of the supercharger, got to be real close to the line towards the firewall

1997 buick regal gs supercharge starts then shuts off what could be the problem

First thing I would need to know is if you are loosing spark or fuel pressure when the engine stops.
If it is fuel, it could be the engine oil pressure switch. The fuel pump gets power from the pump relay in crank mode, then from the oil pressure switch once the engine starts.

What would be the problem if my 1998 buick regal supercharge starts but dies

Sounds like a weak fuel pump or clogged fuel filter.Check your fuel pressure it should be 48-55 psi with the key on and engine off.

I have a 99 Buick Regal GS, engine will start and run for few seconds then it will die.

I had a similar problem....my 98 regal GS did the same. There is a two stage fuel pump resistor located in the right inner finder. It was corroded and open. The fix requires relocating new resister on firewall. Fix was $165.00 + tax to my mechanic and runs like new now. Hard to diagnose problem per mechanic.

CHECK FUEL PRESSURE IT SHOULD BE 41 - 47 PSI. IF NOT REPLACE FUEL FILTER.IF NO CHANGE. REPLACE FUEL PUMP.IF FUEL PUMP IS GOOD.YOUR PROBLEM COULD BE A INTAKE LEAK OR SPARK IGNITION PROBLEMS.ALSO USE A SCANNER TO CHECK FOR FAULTY SENSORS OR THEFT DETERENT PROBLEMS.

Will start then dies

On the regals they have a ceramic resistor on the passanger side under the fender. It heats up and over time it tends to brake and the wire inside tends to rust away. The fuel pumps run in 2 different speeds. Had the same problem. Dealer only part yet the car would run and you would think it was the fuel pump. Turn the key it kicks on then start and dies out. Ceramic on the pass side would need replaced. It is white about 2-3 inches long or so held on with 2 bolts i do believe. Ill find a bulliten i found online to help me diagnos the problem. :) hopefully this helps someone out instead of spendin $$$ that ya cant afford with the recession eh?

1999 Regal GS Super charged, Starts, runs 3-5 sec and dies

i gaurantee that it is the fuel pump ressistor up on the passenger side front behind head lamp assembly you will find the connector with two wires going to it. no need to remove old one install new one and connect wires to new one leave old in. dealer only part but not expensive. dont belive dealer when they try to talk you out of it. This is a kit to relocate a ressistor that has been installed in a poor location. I promise this will fix it. My wifes car did the same thing, took 20 minutes to fix and that is only because i am an electrician and am finicky about where to locate wires etc. the kit comes with installation instructions however they are a little vague. trust me. easy fix. my dealer tried to get me to leave car for repair and said it sounds like the theft detterent system. they were wrong and i was right. dont trust em
