I have a 2004 trailblazer, when I stop and put it in park the ignition switch will not go to off position. If I turn ignition to start position but don't start it and then shift out of and back into park the ignition will go into off position. I'm assuming this could be some kind of switch
Ignition Lock Cylinder Control Actuator
If the vehicle is equipped with a floor mounted console gear shifter, it has a ignition lock cylinder control actuator system in the steering column as an added safety feature. The ignition lock cylinder control actuators purpose is to prevent the steering wheel from being locked when the transmission is in gear and the vehicle may still be moving. The column ignition lock system consists of a ignition lock cylinder control acutator, and a park position switch that is located in the A/T shift lock control switch. The ignition lock cylinder control acutator contains a pin that is spring loaded out to mechanically prevent the ignition key cylinder from being turned to the lock position when vehicle transmission is not in the Park position. If vehicle power is lost, and/or the transmission is not in the Park position the operator will not be able to turn the ignition key to the lock position and will not be able to remove the ignition key from the column.
SOURCE: key stuck in ignition. cannot shift out of park.
If the Button does not work, You will need to get a Pair of Vise Grips and Wiggle it loose with those. It will come out. Done it many times before.

If it is floor shift it has a soloind under the cover not to hard to remove, you have to memove the whole thing bolt in front cupholder and inside armrest storage. once it has removed there is a soloind in there that mounts on the shifter. this goes bad alot. Push the button on the silver soloind button this will release it into gear. Hope this helps. ( Usually he black soloind goes bad)

Hi there,
try turning the wheel to the right/left while turning the key in the ignition. You have to apply some force. Your car is probably outliving its road life.
Cheers & Best Wishes

is the shifter on the steering column? If it is then turn the steering wheel left or right, it won't turn much but it will free up the shifter.
