1996 chevy c1500 w/rotten egg smell,loss of power,rough idle

Usually rotten egg smell indicates catalytic converter problem.

i would check the throttle body for sure. make sure the "butterfly flap" isnt all gummed up with carbon. if it is then wipe it down with a dry rag or a very little bit of soap and water. make sure you dont leave any soap residue. also check in that general area to make sure all connections are good, no vacuum leaks and that everything is plugged in snug the way its supposed to be. fianlly, it would be a good idea to check all fuses under hood and etc for proper fitting and make sure they are all good. let me know what happens, im here to help. regards,

The obd light with tell specifically what it is, is it gas or rotten egg - the latter means catalytic converter, gas smell probably flooded or not firing on one or more cylinders, need more details. Also, if the light is flashing it's warning of catalytic damage - raw fuel hitting the cat, smell could be heat from cat trying to burn off raw fuel,it will glow red hot.

if it shakes and smells of rotten eggs, then the catylitic convertor is bad. driveability symtoms are--- lack of power, drop in fuel economy, lack of high speed power, rough idle or stalling are the symtoms of excessive back pressure. due to a plugged up convertor. it should be diagnosed by a mechanic to verify this.

The oder and loss of power and poor running is do to a failed catalytic converter.

Usually the rotten egg smell is a clogged CAT. Is the engine light on and if so did you retrieve any codes?
