It's a holden rodeo turbo/diesel 2005.check 4wd light on

Obviously check 4wd light is on and 4wd is not functioning(4H,4L) actuators in the transfer case and front axle was already replaced with brand new unit as we suspect it the cause of the problem. But is not.Apparently no 12v supply goes to the other end of the harness to trigger the actuators whenever you press 4H or 4L pushbutton in the dashboard. If only i know the procedure on how to reset or turn off the check 4wd light that could have restore the system function. We try to use a scanner hoping we could erase the trouble code unfortunately our equipment could not read anything about transmission or powertrains.I'm 100% sure no problem with the trans or transfer case.Thank you!

A mere 2,400km into the life of my 07 Rodeo TD 4WD, I used 4L for about 2km of medium-steep/slippery track. After stopping and selecting 2WD the 'Check 4WD' light appeared, meaning I was stuck in 2WD for the rest of that trip. Luckily I was able to complete the trip in 2WD without incident.

The dealer blamed me for 'not following the instructions in the manual' (utter codswallop), 'fixed' it, and very reluctantly gave me a scribbled set of instructions on resetting the system, which I've included below.

When I suggested that these instructions should be included in the manual, the response was 'not necessary if owners use the system correctly'. More cods.

Here's how to reset it:

1. Ignition off, hold all 3 buttons (2H, 4H & 4L) in together

2. Switch ignition on to 'reds' position (last position before start)

3. Hold in this state for 30 seconds

Hope this may be of use !!

Many thanks for the solution. It worked! We were in the outback and that dreaded light came on. It was horrible not knowing what the problem was and not having 4wd if needed. I came across this site and the solution was a brilliant fix. Thanks again. Our car is holden rodeo turbo/diesel 2005.

Here is an updated link with the 2 files that include instruction to reset the Control Module. It is a common fault with Isuzu D-Max (Dmax D max) and Holden Rodeos:
    http://www.swimnspa.com.au/rodeo/

The 2 x files are there along with the button-reset procedure for later models.

    Any problems, email me...

Reset of the 4wd controller is performed by removal of the drivers seat for access to the controller.unbolt the controller for easier access, bridge terminals 1(topleft) of 20 pin connecter with terminal 9(bottomleft) of 16 pin connector as well as terminals 10 and 16 of 16 pin connector. turn on ignition for 3 seconds remove bridges and recheck

are you sure about this way. I tried it but fails.

  • Anonymous Dec 03, 2011

pin 10 and 16 of 16 pin connector are empty. so how can connect it together?

  • Anonymous Dec 08, 2011

    [email protected]
    please send me the solution

  • Anonymous Oct 29, 2012

The terminal of the left is of 20 pins and of the right is of 16 pins. The numeration of those pins are of right to left, join pin 10 of terminal with 20 pins with pin 16 of terminal of 16 pins and join pin 9 of terminal 16 pins with pin 15 of terminal 16 pins with pin 9 of terminal 16 pins. connect this for about 30 seconds

most trucks sold had 2 or more versions sold. day 1 new.

part time 4wd is not for pavement as the manual lost told you.
full time yes!, part time is for offroad or say ice/snow.
there is no FULL TIME here.
so move truck to dirt and test PART TIME 4wd
or move truck to ICE and test.

When additional traction is required the transfer case 4H

to rotate at the same speed. This is accomplished by
simply moving the shift lever to the desired positions.
The 4H and 4L positions are intended for loose, slippery

dry hard surfaced roads may cause increased tire wear
and damage to the driveline components.

Why trasfercase does not transfer from 4LLock to 4HLock or 4H when changing the mode??

Perhaps the gear trains are 'in a bind' and the electric/vacuum actuators cannot exert enough force to shift them.

Try driving at slow speed in a straight line on soft surface (not concrete) for 100 feet, then back up in straight line. The idea is to allow any residual loads from the LOCK position to dissipate and unload the shifters.

4L and 4H lights flashes when you try to engage either of them in 05 Isuzu Rodeo

this is a part time 4wd, not AWD.
and as such must not be run on dry ice free pavement.
so post if car is on said pavement.
test 4wD in DIRT, does it work now, or not?
if you keep doing it on dry pavement this happens.
see here
http://www.rubicon-trail.com/4WD101/driveline-bind.html

read the wiki on all system. and see what you can do and can not.

its not AWD, and has no CENTER differentiable gears.

How do I turn 4wd on?

    • 1 Start your Dodge truck's engine.
    • 2 Turn the electronic transfer case from "2WD" to "4WD Lock" to engage the high range 4WD, if the dodge truck is equipped with an electronic transfer case; otherwise, shift the transfer case lever from "2H" to "4H." The electronic transfer case is located on the instrument panel and is marked with "2WD," "4WD Lock" and 4WD Low." The lever-equipped transfer case is located to the right of your leg and is marked with "2H," "4H" and "4L."
    • 3 Shift the transmission into "Neutral" while the vehicle is either stopped or rolling at 2 to 3 mph to begin engaging in the low range 4WD. Turn the electronic transfer case to "4WD Low," if the Dodge truck is equipped with an electronic transfer case; otherwise, shift the transfer case lever from "2H" or "4H" to "4L."
    Tips & Warnings
    • Indicator lights will come on and alert you that your vehicle is in either the high or low range of 4WD.
    • Do not engage in the low range of 4WD drive if the transmission is in gear; you must shift to "Neutral" first.
    • Many Dodge trucks allow you to shift from 2-wheel drive to the high range of 4WD at up to 55 mph--consult your truck's manual to ensure that this is possible. Do not exceed 55 mph while engaged in the high range of 4WD. Do not exceed 25 mph while engaged in the low range of 4WD.
    • Do not engage in 4WD unless you are on slipper or rocky roads.

Check 4wd light on

just found this worked a trick..mine stuck for two weeks in 2wd

When I suggested that these instructions should be included in the manual, the response was 'not necessary if owners use the system correctly'. More cods.

Here's how to reset it:

1. Ignition off, hold all 3 buttons (2H, 4H & 4L) in together

2. Switch ignition on to 'reds' position (last position before start)

3. Hold in this state for 30 seconds

Hope this may be of use !!
