My saturn ion 2004 started making a grinding noise when turning to the right. the other day i was going around a turn and it was difficult, but only turning right. when sitting still I tried to turn to right and took a lot of effort, any suggestions. i cannot find anything underneath loose, though the sway bar links are a little worn.

SOURCE: Steering

It is an electric assist steering. On very heavy use the motor can become overheated and goes into "safe mode" only partial assist until it cools down. Repeated attempts at parrallel parking have been know to cause this.

SOURCE: To replace front sway bar links

end links are straight forward, remove the old and install the new, sometimes you have some trouble if the ball end spins while removing the nut, look at the nut side of the joint and there is a hex key hole in the center to hold the joint still while removing the nut

SOURCE: 1995 Ford Taurus stabilizer bars cause rear end of car to ''sway''.

If you are any kind of car savy then you can do this yourself. Go to your local parts store and buy the stabalizer link kits. The stabalizer links are located behind the tires and bolt to the struts at the top and the stabalizer bar on the bottom. You don't need any special tools for this project and the stabalizer bars will cost you anywhere from 30-65 dollars a piece.

There is a clicking noise whenever I turn my steering wheel and I was wondering what it was and if I can fix it myself. It's a 2004 Saturn Ion?

My guess is bad cv joints and since ur asking I'm guessing it might be a challenge for u to fix. Check out YouTube.com for 2004 Saturn cv joint replacement.

My used Saturn ion 2003 making loud clicking noise when idling and not accelerating

You buy a 10 year old car that isn't even made anymore
and know it has issues

Do you not have a repair shop you use for many years that has
been around for decades

You need a shop to go thru the entire car & fix ALL problems
regardless of cost, not us guessing at things

Not to get up to speed could be a gas filter ,most likely worn
out & blocked exhaust converter & I could write a book

All it's issues can be diagnosed & you should spend about $1500
if ALL problems are properly tested & resolved

Now you got the entire suspension, all fluids, brakes, tires & on & on

When I buy any vehicle I put it on stands for 3 weeks min & go thru it

On a new car i spend a week a year going thru the entire car

I take brakes apart every year

I check all data every 4 months with professional scan tool software

My 2004 Saturn Ion is making a grinding noise when I turn left, only left and only the first left turn of the day. I just had bearings replace, front brakes replaced and rotors replaced. This grindi

CV joint on the left side is going out. It will grind once or twice "sometimes" when first starting to drive. Best to have both CV joints replaced. Roughly 400.00 to 450.00 parts and labor. Don't take it to a dealer. Dealer shop rates run 90.00 an hour. It will instantly become a 700.00 to 800.00 dollar job. A good reputable mechanic can order replacements and have it done in a day!

On my Saturn 2003 Ion, the starter makes an extremely loud noise upon turning key in the ignition. The problem is recent and literally sounds like something is going to disengage or break. Otherwise, car...

if noise is only when starting, consider replacing the starter. the mounting bolts could have some loose, or the clutch which disengages the starter gear is not retracting the gear. either situation could cause a loud noise of the starter gear clattering with the ring gear.

2004 Saturn Ion wont start from time to time when it is cold outside.. Like this morning my daughter went outside and the car started right up with the temp outside 7 degrees. She warmed it up for awhile...

LOL repeating questions. Its your ignition switch. its a common problem with ions ( I myself have a 04 ion and had it replaced twice in 3 years) repair is around 400 dollars with labor. Just google "ion not starting in cold weather" and youll get TONS of threads. No recall either its stupid

2006 Saturn ION2 won't start. Happens every few

This is a very common problem with the Saturn. It's a bad ignition switch. You need to replace it.

Google on common saturn problems and you'll see that hundred of Saturn owners have had this very problem.

It's really amusing how each dealer prances around it and doesn't tell their customers that it's a common problem. If you bring it to them they will know right away what the problem is but they may pretend not to know right away...EVERY Saturn dealer has fixed this on dozens and dozens of their vehicles...
