Home from work and it ran fine. Next day, jump in, turn the key and nothing happened. No sound from engine...interior door light, radio, and door locks work. Cannot turn steering wheel, or shift to neutral, no signal lights work, and no dinging alarm about door being open or no seat belts fastened. Replaced battery and checked fuses. Any ideas?
no dinging when key left in ignition and door open, no dinging for unhooked seat belt, no sounds from left and right signals, no sound from emergency flashers, and nothing on radio works and then the steering was hard to turn but steering column was replaced and fixed but still nothing else that was listed isnt working.no dinging when key left in ignition and door open, no dinging for unhooked seat belt, no sounds from left and right signals, no sound from emergency flashers, and nothing on radio works and then the steering was hard to turn but steering column was replaced and fixed but still nothing else that was listed isnt working.

Won't start how ? When your the key to the start position what happens ? The engine spins but won't start an run . this a crank no start condition . If nothing happens when you turn the key to start ,this is a no crank no start condition . Need to be clear on this so we know what to have check . If nothing happens when turning the key to start position ,try moving gear selector to neutral - park neutral safety switch . If when you turn the key to start an the engine does spin but doesn't start an run ,check for spark ,fuel pressure . see what's missing .
Check the cleanliness and tightness of the battery terminals. Loosen, twist and retighten them. Also check the cleanliness and tightness of the black earth cable where it attaches to the engine block/bodywork. A bad earth can cause the symptoms you describe.
A quick check you can do is to connect a jump cable to the battery negative terminal - the earth - and connect the other end of the cable to somewhere suitable on the engine/bodywork.
If the car starts no problem with the jumper cable - it's pointing towards a bad earth/connection somewhere on the battery earth
Believe it or not I have found that one key will start my 2009 Ford escape and the other will not-even after replacing the battery in the key. I though it was a dead battery or possibly the starter but it is the key. I haven't figured out how to get the key repaired. Thank God I had a spare one!
Sounds like the battery might not have enough power to start engine. Even though, the radio might play and the lights may come on does not mean there is enough power to start engine. Try charging or jump starting it. These are simple tests to see if it is the battery. If the car starts after charging or jump starting, it was most likely the battery. Just let the car run for ten or so minutes before shutting off to charge the battery. Hope this helps
Check the positive battery wire going down to the starter I ran into problems with them having corrosion on it. I would replace it. Cost about $50 or you could make one yourself for $12.
