Replaced 02 sensor in 2000 ford focus but still get the same codes

California vechicle, would not pass smog came up with an 02 sensor code, ordered new ones on line, got the same codes, order brand new ones from Ford, still got the same codes, when hooking up to the scanner it takes longer then normal, so we are going to try a new ECM, now we are being told that even after we buy the computer we will still have to pay the dealer to "Flash it". Should i replace the ecm and does it really need a $200 flash job?

There are places that will repair your ECM and program your VIN and Mileage into it for about $200 to $300. I used the place in Georgia. Here is a couple of places that can repair your ABS/TCS module for about $100.00
    http://www.cheapabs.com/vrnissan.html

Sent my ABS/TCS module to "Cheap ABS" ($109) They repaired it and I installed it.
    Problem is fixed.

People often have the preconceived thought that a codes meaning is a fault with the sensor that provided the information. Although this is possible, it is not normally the case. When you get a fault code, the computer is seeing a sensors accepted feed back parameters being exceeded in some manner. This on it's own or in combination with other fault codes creates a trail of clues to the actual source of the problem. An individual sensor will have different faults and security levels associated with its feed back. Guess work becomes very expensive.

With a trouble code, it needs proper diagnosis to decide what to fix. The possibilities for the cause for an O2 trouble code is broad. A lean or rich air:fuel mixture, vacuum leak, exhaust leak. It is not normal practice to guess which component to replace. A good scan took that reads operating values is useful to find clues for fixing the problem. What you explain leads to replacement of possibly good components.

O2 sensor codes indicate many possible faults. They must be diagnosed to determine the cause. What are the exact codes you are getting?

You need to check the fuel system, the codes for the O2 sensors is just a response to a fuel mixture problem, to rich or to lean.

Why not try a used ECM? and get the key from the same vehicle if it is chipped. If yours and it are chipped, cut a non chipped key for your ignition.and once the used (known good working unit) ecm is installed ,use the nonchipped key in your ignition while holding the ecm key next to your ignition switch to start the vehicle.Once started run it and see if the same codes come up.If all is OK tape the chipped key under the plastic at the ignition lock and use non chipped keys now and pass the smog.

SOURCE: reset radio code for '02 ford focus

Hi,

You can get this code from the dealer but they will charge you between £20 to £35 for doing this.

I can confidently recommend this site that does these codes for £3.50. They specialise in Ford radios only. Cheap, quick and always reliable. I've used it myself on several occassions without a problem. Click Here.

Hope this helps. Thanks for using FixYa

92 Ford Explorer XLT runs good for 15 minutes, then suddenly starts 'chugging,' loses power, and check engine light comes on.

Have the fault codes read again and get the code numbers so that we can identify if possible the causes for your problem. IN most codes recorded there are a list of possible causes for example if he said possible crank position sensor=== there is also the cam position sensor --wiring --ECM--HO2S sensor --MAF/MAP/VAF sensors that come into the equation

Not passing smog, no code or engine light

Its going to be tough to find the problem without access to a 4 gas machine. Especially if there are no trouble codes in the computer.
If the fuel mixture is rich it should set a code for one or both O2 sensors. Same thing if the EGR is not working, etc.
One thing that could cause problems is the thermostat not getting the engine up to normal temp.

Will a 2003 Ford Ranger w/ 2.3ltr 4-cylinder engine pass smog w/ a P2004 check engine light code? Intake manifold stuck open. I had this problem 2 years ago when I had to smog it last time. I replaced an...

No any codes will let you fail..Rangers are bad about the valve sticking..But first look on th driverside very back on the intake..Youll see a valve with two vacuum lines The one that goes on the bottom of the valve makes a 90 bend and is bad about breaking..If the lines are good then work the valve by hand and see if it will move

Service engine soon light on - codes P0171, P0174, P1131 and P1151 on a 2002 4.6L V8 Does this combination of codes focus on a particular emission component?

Hi, 1151 is an 02 sensor code, 1131 is also 02 sensor code,
0174 lean condition bank 2, and 0171 is lean bank 1. Either this is in need of a whosale of repairs or you have computer issues, From looking at the codes i would first do a complete tune up, Including wires, And inspect for a vacume leak before replacing any 02 sensors..
Take care

Need list of fault codes for deawoo lanos 1999

Not a solution: This is my problem...
I needed to get my car smogged, but the check engine light was on. Took to to a local smog station that had replaced a sensor for me in the past in order to pass smog. They could not fix it. Put car in dealership garage for repairs and to date, the transmission module sensor (computer) went out and the ignition sensor was out also. The mechanic replaced both and now the code P1702 comes up. What does that code mean? My car still won't pass smog....
