I have a 1997 Chevy blazer and the air bag light comes on when I shift the vehicle in gear and never goes off until I shift the vehicle back into park. Once I shift to park it the air bag light flashes 6 times and goes out. My OBD II diagnostic code reader will not pick up any code.
OBDII scanners for the home DIY guy only scan powertrain codes ... and not body codes .... which is where the airbag code(s) would go. Scanners that do both are expensive. I would call a local auto parts place that advertises that they will scan for free ... but ask them if their scanner can read body codes related to the air bag. If they say yes ... I would take it to them and to narrow down your troubleshooting ... since the airbag light can go on for a bunch of reasons and you do not want to just throw parts at it.

I think your BCM which is the body control module has failed, have a self test run on it to see if it will give any codes, if it won't test then it is the problem.

More then likely its the Canister Purge Solenoid. you can find it online at www.autozone.com the part number is PV140. And to replace it on blazer you have to remove the spare tire. Alot of people don't know where this part is so I hope this helps you and good luck.

You will have to take this to a dealer to shut the air bag light off .. Unless it has been in a wreck at one time or another .. if it has it needs the sensor on front end replaced and the module also reset or replaced.. thanks Jerry and holler if you need more.

the only light that matters on the dash for inspections is the check engine light for emissions purposeses, you can un hook the car battery for five minutes and let the codes reset in the computer, how ever i would wait till after u got the car inspected before you did this because it will reset the monitors as well, and that will fail you on the emissions test, if you havent completed the drive cycle yet. if it comes back on take it to an auto garage that has a snap-on modus scanner should be able to take car of it with that, and find out why it is coming on. let me know how it goes

check the fuses and wiring in the fuse box and the relay ,either that or the abs pump has a problem.

My stays on as well. There as to be a way to reset this with out buying special tools.
98 Chevy Blazer. Airbag light comes on after engine temp guage reads normal operating temp. It might go off again, No consistant pattern. Cool weather- light might not come on at all. Chevy Dealer says airbag diagnostic is $165.00. I'm hoping to find a cheaper solution, no luck yet
