2003 ION doors unlock with key fob but factory security system won't let car start

Sometimes if you try to start the car it won't. If you take key out open door to shut everything off and wait 5-6 minutes it may start. sometimes you have to do this 2 or 3 times before it starts. also the security light on dash flashes indicating system still activated. Any ideas.

The fab key activates the security system in the car, the ignition pass lock may need to be reset to your ignition key's. It Takes about 30 min to do. Try resetting the pass lock to read your ignition keys. 30-Minute Learn Procedure 1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF. 2. Attempt to start the engine, then release the key to ON; the vehicle will not start. 3. Observe the SECURITY tell tale light. After approximately 10 minutes, the light will turn OFF. 4. Turn OFF the ignition switch, and wait 5 seconds. 5. Repeat steps 1 through 4 - two more times - for a total of 3 cycles of 10 minutes. 3x10 = 30 minutes. The vehicle is now ready to relearn the Passlock Sensor Data Code and/or passwords on the next ignition switch turn from OFF to CRANK. Important: Turn the Ignition Switch OFF. The vehicle learns the Passlock Sensor Data Code and/or password on the next ignition switch transition from OFF to CRANK. You must turn the ignition OFF before attempting to start the vehicle. 6. Start the engine. The vehicle has now learned the Passlock Sensor Data Code and/or password. 7. With a scan tool, clear any DTCs if needed. History DTCs will self clear after 100 ignition cycles. Without a scan tool you may have momentary starter interruptions while history clears itself. Good luck and hope this helps. The ignition keys has a resistor value for the ignition to read and after a few years the resistance may change and the Pass Lock has a had time reading it's value so you have to reset the pass lock to read the keys again.

SOURCE: 2003 Saturn Ion -just replace

Greetings,
Does the key have a chip in it? If it does, read the resistance accross both sides of the key chip on the 20k scale, buy a 96 cent pack of resistors from Radio Shack, and solder together a set of them that equals near 2% variance of what the key reads, shrink wrap them, try to locate the wiring and solder this resistance set up in the wires, try to start.
Wiring diagram is needed to be sure of the colors and location of wires to be spliced.

I came accross a remedy of some who had a remote control start installed and they stated this eliminated their starting horrors.
When you turn the key to start does it crank or does it make any sort of a noise, like a clicking to the relay?
try tapping the solenoid with a long bar tried just about everything else.

SOURCE: 2003 Saturn Ion will not start. Security lock is on.

The fix for this problem is well known, so is the cause. GM needs to step up in my opinion. You can fix it yourself if you're willing

I assume the factory alarm was somehow bypassed when they installed the remote start is there a way I can make the factory alarm work when the doors are opened without key,?

To arm content theft alarm.
1. Open the door.
2. Lock the door with the power door lock switch or
the remote keyless entry transmitter. The
SECURITY light should flash.
3. Close all doors. The SECURITY light should go off
after approximately 30 seconds. The alarm is not
armed until the SECURITY light goes off.

If a locked door is opened without the key or the remote keyless entry transmitter, the alarm will go off. The headlamps and parking lamps will flash for two minutes, and the horn will sound for 30 seconds, then will turn off to save the battery power.

92 Toyota celcia battery died an now security system won't let it start? What can I do

If it is a factory security system, usually locking/unlocking the doors with the key fob will reset it. On some vehicles, locking/unlocking the drivers door with the key will also reset it

How do you bridge-out the anti-theft security system....it keeps kicking in and shutting down the van after starting

There is a problem detected within the security system by the security module. Try locking and unlocking the door with the key fob to reset the system. Sometimes locking and unlocking the drivers door using the key will reset the system as well. If still no luck, try the spare key to see if the security system accepts it

Won't start, could it be fob or engine?

Try not using the fob at all open the door with the key. And start the jeep if it works without issue then its the fob. If its still not working correctly remove the battery from the fob and try again(since if it was damaged could be sending the signal for the panic button) the next step is the key try your spare security key can become worn and cause issues with the antitheft system. After that it only leaves computer problems and those can get spendy

If the passkey is messed up, there will be a light on the dash that says security, or have a picture of a car with a lock thru it. If there is no light when the key is turned forward, then its NOT a passkey problem.
