I went through the same thing on my 02 saturn last week. The very first thing I would do is start car, spray some brake cleaner, or even wd 40 directly onto the Intake manifold gasket. This is behind the valve pan, to the right of the power steering pump. Spray liberally as it evaporates quickly. Listen to the RPMs and see if there was any change up or down. If so , and these cars are known for this, it is a bad intake manifold gasket. $40 part 4 hour change. Also spray all vacuum lines that are visible If the RPMs do not change, it may be your AIC [air idle control], or TPS[ throttle positioning sensor.] These are located on the side of the throttle body. The throttle body can be removed by 2 10mm bolts. Unplug the 2 vacuum lines on the top of throttle body, and dis connect the throttle cable. Remove the throttle body being careful not to lose or damage the metal gasket , and with a torex 20 socket. remove the 2 bolts on the AIC [bottom sensor ] , and the TPS on the top. When you take out the AIC it will have a mushroom shaped cone. Clean that cone, and look inside the throttle body and clean all the surfaces that this sensor touches. Be careful not to lose the rubber O ring in there, and make sure it stays in place when you put it back on. .The TPS , just make sure its clean. NOW, on the back side of your throttle body will have a build up of carbon. Scrape as much as you can off. You then use varsol or brake cleaner, even wd40. . Clean throttle body with the AIC off so that you can clean thoroughly. Pay special attention to the 2 vacuum holes , and hold flap open and clean well. You should have a brand new looking part by the time it's done. Replace the opposite of removal. Be sure to put gasket back in properly. These cars are known for this. I own 2 of the same cars and things go wrong with the both of them exactly the same . If you spray the brake cleaner around the intake manifold gasket and it does change your RPMS, let me know and I can place my full video of the replacement I did last week. I decided to film it to help others and show how easy it was to do. Let me know how you make out. My own car hasn't worked this well in years. Please rate my solution thanks. keep me informed

Idle air control valve is suppose to let the rpms go high to warm the motor to normal temp, and then drop it to 1200 rpms

You need to check and/or replace the thermostat and/or the temp. sensor. Take a meat thermometer and stick it in the overflow tank. The temp gauge on the dash should register above the 1/4 mark after at least 15 minutes of driving. If so, the meat thermometer should read above 180 degrees. If the meat thermometer reads 180 but the gauge isn't above 1/4, then you need to replace the sensor. If the meat thermometer doesn't read 180 or higher, then you need to replace the thermostat. The thermostat in these cars, though it doesn't fail on its own, has an unnecessary rubber gasket that fails, and allows coolant to leak past even when shut, causing the engine to not warm up thoroughly. IF the engine doesn't warm up, the idle won't come down--speaking from personal experience. I had to replace both items on my car. Now it idles fine, and after a bit of driving the gauge registers between 1/4 and 1/2, but always above 1/4. DO NOT tamper with idle adjustments unless you have exhausted all other possibilities. They are factory set, critical, and almost never need readjusting. Good luck.

SOURCE: does anyone know a way

Hello Tricia,

The fix is unbelievably simple and NOT the ignition switch. It is however the pass lock white wire. The wire is located in the steering column. You can find a youtube video on it. You simply remove the airbag fuse (for safety), unscrew two screws under the steering wheel, you will see many wires. Find the wire wire (a guy has a complete instructional video on youtube), crank your Ion, cut the wire while it is cranked, seal the ends and replace everything. The only draw back is the passlock dashboard light will stay on. The passlock system is basically is someone steals your car without a key, it tells the computer to stop giving it gas. I had the same problem and since I cut the white wire it has cranked EVERY time. Good Luck, it will only cost you around 5 bucks...

2000 S-10 discharge problem?

This is a very interesting situation. It seems like you have a situation that when it is cold - some contact stay open and when it gets hot = the contact closes and drain your battery.
Do you have an automotive scanner to test for faults?
This is where I would start as it could be anything from your car computer to something very simple.
I would replace your thermostat. and check the sensor at the thermostat. Using a test light and connecting it to the sensor - it should not light up as the connection is not connected. The connection inside the sensor should ground out when it is over heating. or just replace the sensor to see what happens.

Engine only stalls when in any gear also when floored engine cuts out at 3000+ rpms

it sounds like a crank sensor if the vehicle stalls in any gear or when cold its most likely a crank sensor. located near the bottom of the engine. there almost always behind the balancer pully for the crank shaft

My car doesnt want to start up right away in the morning. Almost like its really cold out and it takes it a min. The rest of the day its fine runs great. Any ideas?

Reason 1 - Gasoline, like any other liquid, evaporates less when it is cold. You have seen this -- if you pour water onto a hot sidewalk it will evaporate a lot faster than it will from a cooler place like a shady sidewalk. When it gets really cold, gasoline evaporates slowly so it is harder to burn it (the gasoline must be vaporized to burn). Sometimes you will see people spray ether into their engines in cold weather to help them start -- ether evaporates better than gasoline in cold weather.

Reason 2 - Oil gets a lot thicker in cold weather. You probably know that cold pancake syrup or honey from the refrigator is a lot thicker than hot syrup or honey. Oil does the same thing. So when you try to start a cold engine, the engine has to push around the cold, gooey oil and that makes it harder for the engine to spin. In really cold places people must use synthetic motor oils because these oils stay liquid in cold temperatures.

Re ason 3 - Batteries have problems in cold weather, too. A battery is a can full of chemicals that produce electrons The chemical reactions inside of batteries take place more slowly when the battery is cold, so the battery produces fewer electrons. The starter motor therefore has less energy to work with when it tries to start the engine, and this causes the engine to crank slowly.

All three of these problems can make it impossible to start an engine in really cold weather. People either keep their cars in heated garages or use "block heaters" to get around these problems. A block heater is a little electric heater that you plug into the wall to keep the engine warm.
i hope it was convince answers

if you have the same problem with the engine Hot or Cold then it may be the cold start fuel injector in the throttle body / carb. may need to be cleaned or replaced.
