I called the dealership - they told me the only way to get the code is to bring the car in and they will have to charge $49.95 for 1/2 hour service. I then e-mailed Saturn customer service who told me the same thing. I have found a post on the saturnfans.com that told me how to get a code which I have but now am waiting 1 hour to clear the lock because I tried to guess the code. I'm not sure if it will work but if it does it's free. Too bad for Saturn and GM. After loaning them all that money I'd expect a little better treatment as a current owner. I like the car but they pissed me off and I will never own GM again and what would it have cost them to give me this info?I called the dealership - they told me the only way to get the code is to bring the car in and they will have to charge $49.95 for 1/2 hour service. Not true..... called every Saturn dealer in Tampa Bay. They want the money. They say it's a "complicated procedure" and better bring it in. The owner's manual clearly states how to do this, however, the code is left out.... Not true..... called every Saturn dealer in Tampa Bay. you need to go to the dealer they need to let it come out of lock mode and then they need to get the code out the radio and they need to get the unlock code and enter it and then it will work,,,,only a dealer can get the unlock code,,,,,or buy a new radio, but that will cost more than the $100 the dealer wants and will take longer and be a pain in the as,,,,,,
I had this same exact problem in a family member's Saturn. If you are opening the door with the key and not using the key FOB to unlock the doors, then the security system will not allow you to start the car. You will notice when this happens that the dome light will blink and you'll hear the relay in the BCM clicking.
In order to stop the security system from doing this: Make sure the car is locked with the key fob by hitting the lock button. Then hit the unlock button on the key fob once and then once again (I do it out of habit). Then open the driver side door, put the key in and it should start no problem.
It may be complicated, depending which radio you have. UC1 or US9, US8. The owners manual should have all the info you need. You do have the radio code, right? If not...you will need to visit the dealer. If you have the code, the radio must be on for 1 hour and then it will unlock when it reads - - - - , and you can put the code in. Its not your girlfriends fault. ; )
The best possible thing I could advise you to do would be this. Sometimes they can do it over the phone. Tell them that you are having issues with your radio being locked. Usually they can look up by your VIN number and get you your unlock code. Otherwise you will have to take it to the dealer and have them hook up their vehicle scanner (Tech-2) and they will be able to fix it. Everyone on the internet has their own secret ways about how to obtain these codes, but with it comes to GM the best way is to take it to a dealer.
dealerships are usually very helpful with pulling the codes and unlocking it. Catch them on a good day and they may do if for free. if not they usually charged about $60..
