Below are some pictures for you. This is not the easiest chain to replace. Things like the water pump, power steering pump, oil pan all have to be removed. Also I have had to manually rotate one of the camshafts and hold to line up the marks. Not in all cases but it has happened. You really need to make sure you are at top dead center (TDC) when putting back together. If you want feel free to email me at [email protected] with all your information and I will be happy to make you up a PDF with detailed step by step instructions with pictures. There would not be a cost to you for this. I don't mind helping. It can be quite detailed and you don't want to be off even a tooth which is why I did mention maybe having to rotate a camshaft. Also when buying the timing chain be sure to get a quality chain. The cheap ones don't have colors or marks on them and not only are you lining up your timing marks as far as the crank and camshaft sprockets but there are also chain links with colors on them that need to match up to your marks as well. This helps in making sure everything is lined up correctly. Hope this helps.......

SOURCE: timing chain replacement

The timing chain on the Trailblazer 4.2 L is a metal chain. Unlike plastic timing belts that require replacement at certain mileage, this metal chain should be good for the life of the engine.

Electronic throttle control. It's most likely a bad solenoid or sticky linkage.

Should the timing chain come off when replacing the heads ?

whenever working on an engine with overhead cams, the timing chain will be removed when replacing heads ,then reinstalled when heads are installed and timing must be performed to insyre engine runs properly or you might run into some seriuos engine damage.now if the chain came off after engine was reassembled then i would believe something was not tightened or chain was not checked for damege or wear when it was off.

How many miles for a tune up 2005 chevy trailblazer

Most of the car dealers recommend to perform Maintenance services scheduled at 30K, 50K, 90K and so on.
At 30K they mostly inspect all the systems, and replace fuel filter.
At 60K they inspect systems and flush must of the fluids, transmission oil and filter, coolant, brake fluid, differential and transfer case fluid, and replace the air filter. Some replace the spark plus at 60K some at 100K.
At 90K all timing belts are replaced, and the status of the timing chain checked. A deviation of more than 5 degree means, there it is the time ayes on the timing chain.
At the Owners manual for 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer recommend:
Inspect all the systems at 25K, and replace fuel filter.
Replace engine air cleaner filter, automatic transmission fluid, automatic transfer case fluid every 50K.
Replace spark plugs every 100K.
Maintenance Services for your car are scheduled at 25K, 50K, 75K,100K and so on. All are tune ups but they are not the same.
The only concern for GM is the GM Dex-Cool antifreeze. There are some complaints regarding this product. I recommend to flush the cooling system every 50K to 60K.

My 2002 TB is running good but at 137,000 miles am considering replacing the timing chain which has never been replaced. What is projected time?

HI, endless your really bored and have a long weekend I would pass tackling this. Book time is 15 hours I have done them in under 9 but that was with having all the specialty tools to hold the cams and had done 2 or 3 prior. If you do decide to do this make sure you get the chain guides also. Good Luck
