99 Saturn SL clutch lost pressure while driving, won't go into gear while car is on, What do I do?

While I was driving, a 99 Saturn SL, the clutch suddenly lost pressure, and I couldn't get into gear. I turned the car off, forced it into 1st gear (manual transmission) and got it home. I checked the fluid, and it was almost all the way full, nothing leaking, there is no pressure to the clutch as all. Is there a cable that may have snapped? Could this have been vandalism? Do I have to remove the engine or can I get to the clutch by removing the battery?

Have you ever had the clutch replaced? I am guessing you need to change the clutch plate and pressure plate, if worn into flywheel need to see if can resurface or new one.

Depends on mechanic, some remove engine to get to it or some remove tranny to do it.

You don't state mileage on the car but I'm betting well over 100K. The master cylinder is sold as a one piece kit which has the line and the slave cylinder attached to it. More than likely your slave cylinder has gone bad, which means you'll have to drop the transmission to get it out as it's an internal mechanism that pushes your throw out bearing to engage your clutch. Yes it's time to also change the clutch and pressure plate too, you may as well as long as you have to drop the transmission AND in order to do that my friend, you're going to have fun, because the whole front of the car has to be lifted and the WHOLE X sub-frame has to be dropped which means struts and all have to be disconnected. NOT a fun driveway weekend job unless your young, don't mind bending and kneeling on concrete and have power tools, air guns, to make it easier. Strong arms if you're going to attempt it with hand tools. Good luck to you.

SOURCE: 95 saturn sl 2 5 speed manual transmission, clutch

This vehicle has a pair of shift cables which attatches to the shifter and runs to the transmission shift housing. To diagnose, removal of the center console is in order so you can inspect and verify the shifter/cable connections and movement, then verify the cables move the linkages properly at the transmission . These cables are a fairly common failed part and sold as the set, these are a dealer item and no aftermarket cables are available .

SOURCE: How to Fix a Transmission Fluid Leak for a 1996 Sa...

Most of the leaks that occur on the transmission is at the lines coming from the radiator. Take some brake cleaner in a spray can, I like to use this rather than carb cleaner since it evaporate quick, but spray the area well and clean it off and drive it and now look for any new fluid around the area where the lines plug into the transmission. The one that show a sign, will need to be replaced. They can be taken out of the trany easily, by squeezing the plastic fitting and pulling the line out, but I like to make a plug out of a stick or something to plug the hole since fluid will run out of the trany once you do this.Tthe one in the radiator will be another problem. I would put some PB blaster some type of pentatrating oil on it and let it set for a couple of days and repeat this process a couple of times before attempting to remove the line.

SOURCE: 2001 Saturn manual stick shift just popped and

sounds like your washers/bearings/spacers finally degraded. To make sure, pop off the little flexy cover. You will see a linkage that goes straight into the transmission. If the bearings there (the little white plastic ones) look eaten up, that's most likely your problem.

Done cars have a kill switch if they are low on oil. Check your oil. If the oil is good, it may be the ignition switch.

2002 saturn sl won't start, turn over but won't start

If the engine fires up for a second or two with starting fluid then the fuel pump is weak.I would check the fuel pressure and if its not within the specs then replace the pump and filter.

I have a 1994 saturn sl 1.9L with a 5spd that won't go into 1st gear. Everything goes smooth exept 1st gear. It doesn't even begin to go into gear.

Does it go easy into gear when the car is off? Sounds like your hydraulics are shot or it's time to replace the clutch because the pressure plate fingers are too worn to disengage the clutch completely.

As an alternative diagnostic. Shift into 2nd first and then bring it into neutral then let off the clutch, then press the clutch again and try first. Essential double clutch to see if you can go into first. If it still doesn't work then it's hydraulics or clutch. This was a check to see if the synchros are shot.

99 saturn sl2 has lost reverse

Reverse & 2nd gear share the same clutch pack.Usually when reverse goes out you will get wierd shifting into 2nd or 3rd.Most likey the Input shaft retaining nut has come loose inside the first clutch housing. It can be accessed from the trans end cover but it will take some disassembly. The trans doesn't have to come out to correct this problem.I repaired many saturns with this problem. The only parts you will have to buy is an end cover gasket(paper gasket) & 41/2 qts Trans fluid.Decent mechanice could do this in about 2-3 hrs or less. The service engine light is probally on due to trouble codes from the trans controller most likey DTC P0723 No 2nd gear.hope this helps
