What does scan data show ? Do you know what that is ? What do the fuel trims show , is the computer adding or taking away fuel ? Are the O2 sensors switching normally ? EGR valve stuck open . When you replaced the IAC did you clean the passage ? On a scan tool what are the IAC counts ? Is the the PCM controlling it .Did you clean the throttle plate ?

Engine coolant temp sensor, If you pull it you will be able to see if it is cracked.. I don't know why but the original sensors they designed the ceramic tips crack around the tip of the head.. It will make the car nearly impossible to start smoke when cranking the engine, and idle really rough racey infact. 15 dollars or so let me know if that worked for you

Possible blown head gasket. Big problem . Have that checked immediately by a engine coolant pressure leak-down test. You can lose your engine and pronto! Small amount of coolant possible passing into crankcase or/and the cylinders.

my only guess is a vacuum hose leak. possibly a loose air filter housing, or the mass air flow sensor. look for any hoses unplugged. if nothing is noticed, try cleaning out your fuel system. if that doesnt solve it, then it would be something an experienced mechanic would have to come and examine it personally.

2000 Saturn SL2 runs fine until stopped at a stop sign, etc., then it seems to idle rough - what could be causing this problem? Was told, maybe old gas since it had been sitting for about 4 months.

reasearch "intake manifold gasket". i have the same car, and the same problem, and everything ive read so far points to the intake manifold gasket. apparently during production there was an error that caused the original gaskets to crease. i would suggest taking some brake or carb cleaner and spraying it around intake #1 while the car is idling in park, this should cause the engine to idle rougher. if it does the gasket is your problem.
here's a link to another thread that sheds a lot of light on the issue, and even has some instructions on how to repair.

2000 Saturn SL2 this month I replaced radiator, water pump, thermastat and it keeps over heating. The temperature gauge does not raise past 1/4 (normal) the overflow container is full at a 50/50 mix. the...

first determine if the car is actualy getting hot.dont trust the gauge or fan for these are controled by a temp sensor, if the sensor went bad it will tell you its hot. the other thing it might be is a air bubble trapped in the system

2000 Saturn SL2 won't pass smog test

It could be as simple as a bad thermostat (stuck open), that's causing the car to not warm up, which would be one reason it's burning too much gas (running cold, not reaching operating temp. which would allow the engine to run efficiently). Did the garage mention the thermostat as a possibility? Remove the thermostat to see if it's in the open position (should be closed @ room temp.) Let me know what u find.
