I hate to tell you this, but there is not Camshaft Position Sensor on any 1.9L Single or Dual OHC. I assume you had someone read a Diagnostic Trouble Code from your PCM. They probably told you that you needed a Camshaft Position Sensor, and then offered to sell you one. I would recommend changing your spark plugs and your plug cables with FACTORY REPLACEMENTS. This will usually make the DTC go away. Aftermarket plugs and wires rarely work well for this engine. If you are looking for a CRANKSHAFT position sensor, look between the engine and transmission on the back side of the transmission. It is also known as the "transmission input speed sensor". More often than not though, your engine will not fire up if the Crank position sensor is not working. Hope this helps.

2002 Saturn SL2 (Automatic) Transmission 70K miles

November 2008 out of no where my car started acting funny. There was no warning light no nothing. At 5000 RPM's it would start slipping
out of gear. I took it to the dealership and they informed me that I needed a new Valve body. They replaced that, and did a few other thing and that was that $2000.

then 2 weeks ago my service engine soon light came on. On my way to the dealership (1 day after the light came on....It turned its self off)
The dealership told me that they found a transmission error (P0789) but that they didnt want to get into that because it could be an old error. They also told me that my thermostat, and thermostat sensor were bad and charged me $336 to fix that.

Then last Thursday my service engine soon light came on again. The next morning I took it back to the dealership. A couple hours later they told me that my car now had 3 error codes (P0741, P0740, P0789) and that it was my Torque convertor. They told be it was going to cost $2000 to fix. I told they basically to F&*$ Off, and left with my car.

I then took it to Midas to get a second opinion. They informed me that it was the torque convertor and that they would not fix it. (but told me that is would cost me $350 to fix) The reason they would not fix it is cause they said it was just going to continue to happen cause a part of my transmission is bad, They suggested getting a re-built transmission for $1600.

I then left and was on my way to work when I got a call from the dealership stating that my car problem might have been caused by the work they did in November. They then told me to bring it back on Tuesday (because Monday was a holiday)

Brought my car in on Tuesday @ 7am. They gave me a rental car and I was on my way. I got a call yesterday (Thursday) that my car was ready to be picked up, but that they couldn't fix the problem cause my service engine light would not come on. She told me that they put 70 miles on my car trying to get the light to turn back on, but it didnt happen.

Im a little confused here..... Friday they knew what the problem was and they were willing to take $2000 from me to fix it. Now they are telling me that they cant, because they cant pin point the problem.

Now they are telling me to wait until the light comes on again to bring it back in.

Are they full of ****? Or do they just not want to fix my car? It seems to me that wether the light is on or off is shouldnt matter.

Any suggestions?

It should not matter and Yes you are Totally getting the Run Around! The only thing that IS True is that the Eletronic Transmissions like the one that you have are Very Prone to Problems But, They should have dealt with this Problem before and had it Fixed. They just Cleared the Trouble Codes Before Writing them Down and need for the Light to come back on to find the Codes again. But, Like I said before, They should know by the ACTIONS of the Tranny what the Problem was and How to fix it. This is my Professional Opinion, It will be fine until the Light Comes on again, If it does take it back and tell them that you want to speak to the General Manager for that Region. They will find the Problem and Repair it. I have seen it Before. MAKE THEM FIX IT. And do NOT Pay that Rediculous Price for the Repair. They should Prorate the Cost from the Money that you have already Paid them.

Car jerks while driving at steady speeds

When I am accelerating, it performs fine, but then when I just keep the throttle open to keep a constant speed, it starts to ****, like someone is messing with the gas pedel. What could be causing this? I just had my sparkplugs replaced because oil was leaking from the engine into the wells causing it not to start. HELP!

Did you have the wires replaced also?? If not I would replace both the plugs & the wires all at the same time. You may have carbon tracking on your wires & plugs. What Year is Saturn?? If it's a 91-94 You most likely have a EGR Valve floating due to a weak internal spring. It will cause a surge miss at constant throttle.Hope This Helps!!

Saturn SL 2002 High Idle

High Idle on a Saturn 2002 SL1 manual. I've replaced the IAC, PCV, and TPS. I'm still getting idle levels between 2,500-3,000 RPMs. The car runs fine other than when idling but it gets really loud at every stop light!! Any solutions? Also, readings tell me error codes P0301 and P0507. Those translate to cylinder 1 misfire and IAC idle speed higher than expected.

2002 saturn sl1 ignition switch lock up

The key will go into the ignition switch, but it will not turn at all. So the steering and transmission shifter are locked up also. The car has a automatic transmission. I have the exact same issue with my car. I've heard it is a problem with the saturn SL1. I actually stumbled apon this thread searching for possible solutions on the internet...as nobody else is able to tell me what to do.

The problem is that there is a piece inside of the ignition that shaves the key little bit by little bit each time you start the car. I just spent 45 minutes today at a hardware store, while the employees tried time after time to copy my key exactly so that it would fit. No success. I have three spares...that will only work after literally about 5 minutes of playing with the wheel.

you will need approx. 5 quarts of Oil 10W 30
you will need an oil pan, rags an oil filter wrench(walmart--very cheap). New oil filter obviously. 14mm wrench or socket for the drain plug.

Procedure: let car warm up (this will help drain all oil out faster and more efficiently)

take drain plug out first,
let that drain while you place a little oil in the new filter (if it is a horizontal mounting filter then there is no need to put any in)
use your oil filter puller and take off the old filter. that may have a little residual drainage; after that place the new filter in and then replace the drain plug(once all the oil has stopped running out. a little bit left in there won't hurt) place at least three quarts in to the filler hole. then start the engine for aproxx 30 sec. This will allow the oil to fill the oil filter and also heat it up a bit. let it sit for a minute then check the level. It may take a little over 4 quarts, you will have to check the dip stick as you pour more in. take it for a test drive then park on the level, let it sit for a minute, then check it again. if it is way over then you must drain some back out. over filling can damage your engine.

Sounds like a thermostat problem to start with. Follow the top rad. hose to the engine. You will have to bleed the system of air after.

replace the coil it is most likely bad. observe the engine at night or in a dark environment and proceed to use a spray bottle to lightly coat the coil pack for that cylinder number 3 and if you see an arc at the coil or any where else this will confirm a bad coil but even if you don't see any arcing it still may be a weak coil.
