engine running hot and air conditioning not working

yesterday the air conditioning went out when my wife was driving the car. Today I noticed that the the temp gauge was all the way up on high. I stopped in to get an oil change, it was 8 miles before my 3000 recommended change and they topped my coolant off. Car is still running at or near high and ac is still not working. Went I start the car the ac will run for a couple of minutes and then cut out. Are these problems related?
My cousin suggested that I check the thermostat,

Any time your car overheats, you need to shut it down ASAP or you can melt the aluminum parts of the engine or crack a head gasket, a repair which is the automotive equivalent of open heart surgery.
The AC cuts out to protect the engine from heating even more. But what you can do to bring down the engine temperature is to switch on the heater, but even this is only advisable for a couple miles or so until you get to a repair station. At this point, your check engine light should have been on. Any time that light is on and you don't know the reason, you need to call roadside assistance if you are not within 5 or 10 minutes of a safe place to pull over.
If the thermostat sticks in the closed position, it means that no matter how much coolant is in the reservoir it is not able to circulate freely through your engine. The thermostat can also get stuck in the open position, meaning the car won't warm up when you turn the crank (car runs too cold).
According to some car care guides, the thermostat should be replaced every two years. It is a VERY cheap part, but if it fails and you continue driving the car in an overheated state, you might be looking at a new car and/or a new engine. Running your car overheated is not much better than running your car with no oil in it. Those are two surefire ways to fry the engine.

Go to the dealer and have them check the hood pin switch pad, there is a updated part that is longer to make better contact with the hood pin switch. Also, check the trunk lid stricker to make sure it is not bent, that has got me a couple of times.

2002 Hyundai Elantra, airbag warning light stays on

I recently purchased a 2002 Hyundai Elantra for my son to drive and the airbag warning light is staying on. I heard there was a recall of 2001 and 2002 Elantras for an airbag issue so I contacted Hyundai and gave them my VIN number. As it turned out my vehicle was not included in this recall. It was manufactured about 4 months after the cutoff date. I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions for things I can try to fix this issue before I have to take it into the shop. Thanks.

Airbags can be as dangerous and deadly, as easily as they can save a life. The airbag warning light is telling you that your vehicle has no airbags at this time.

If you don't understand the total airbag system, it's best left to a professional. It's worth the expense to have operable airbags, rather than chance a collision without operable airbags. My suggestion to you is to let the dealer fix your system so it is guaranteed.

error code po340 for a 2002 hyundai elantra

At first when my car was running bad, my father bought a book for it, and used an equipment that gives the codes to tell if something was wrong. The first time using it, it came up with the codes saying my cam shaft sensor and my crank shaft sensor were bad. So I replaced them. The car was still acting funny, so we decided to use the warranty i had on the sparkplug wires, replaced those, has brand new o2 sensors too. the check engine light came on, my father tested it, and its been saying this po340 camshaft sensor A bank Circuit 1 malfunction. Weve tested all that we could, and everything is good. The only thing the thing keeps saying is that code and cam shaft A bank circuit 1 malfunction. If someone could please tell me what this means, where it is, and possibly an idea on how to fix it, id really apperciate it. Thank you
sincerely--kimberly

Here is what I could find on your P0340 error code:
CausesA code P0340 could mean one or more of the following has happened:

  • a wire or connector in the circuit could be grounded/shorted/broken
  • the camshaft position sensor may have failed
  • the PCM may have failed
  • there exists an open circuit
  • the crankshaft position sensor may have failed
Possible SolutionsWith a P0340 OBD-II trouble code, diagnosis can be tricky at times. Here are some things to try:
  • Visually inspect all the wiring and connectors in the circuit
  • Check for continuity in the circuit wiring
  • Check the operation (voltage) of the camshaft position sensor
  • Replace the camshaft position sensor as required
  • Check the crankshaft position circuit as well
  • Replace circuit wiring and/or connectors as required
  • Diagnose/replace the PCM as required
Sounds like since you have replaced both the camshaft and crank shaft sensors you need to look at the PCM.  Go down the line of possible solutions and don't replace the PCM unless nothing else works obviously.  I hope this helps but it looks like you are looking at getting a new PCM.  Good luck.  Thanks for rating my response and for using FixYa!

With the car on ground, break loose the drive-axle nut, and the wheel nuts , than jack up the car, support it properly, remove the wheel ,remove the axle-nut.
Remove the brake caliper assembly-- support it properly.
Remove the two bolts that hold the hub bracket to the Macpherson strut assemble, remove the lower arm ball joint and remove the steering tie- rod ball-joint attached to the hub bracket. That's it.Slide off the hub /with the bracket off the drive-shaft.
Follow steps backwards to assemble back.

DTC P0441 - Evaporative Emission Control System Incorrect Purge Flow

What does that mean?
This indicates that a part of the EVAP control system is no longer fuctioning correctly. The EVAP system consists of many parts, including (but not limited to) the gas cap, fuel lines, carbon canister, purge valve, and other hoses. The (EVAP) emission control system prevents the escape of fuel vapors from a vehicle's fuel system. Fuel vapors are routed by hoses to a charcoal canister for storage. Later, when the engine is running a purge control valve opens allowing intake vacuum to siphon the fuel vapors into the engine.

EVAP emission canister purge is contolled by a valve which allows engine vacuum to pull stored fuel vapors from fuel tank into the engine to be burned, rather than be vented to atmosphere. A vacuum switch is used to detect when flow exists. If the PCM commands purge and sees that the switch is closed (indicating no detected purge flow) P0441 is set.

Symptoms
Likely, no symptoms will be discernible to the driver, other than the illuminated Check Engine Light.

Causes
A code P0441 could mean one or more of the following has happened:
* Bad vacuum switch
* Broken or damaged EVAP line or canister
* Open in PCM purge command circuit
* Open or short in Voltage feed circuit to Purge Solenoid
* Faulty purge solenoid
* Restriction in EVAP solenoid, line or canister
* Corrosion or resistance in purge connector
* Bad PCM

Possible Solutions
With a P0441 OBD-II trouble code, diagnosis can be tricky at times. Here are some things to try:

* Common Chrysler fix - Replace Leak Detection Pump / LDP
* Repair damaged EVAP lines or canister
* Repair open or short in voltage feed circuit to Purge Solenoid
* Repair open in PCM purge command circuit
* Replace purge Solenoid
* Replace vacuum switch
* Repair restriction in Evap line or canister or soleniod
* Repair resistance in purge connector
* Replace PCM

Other EVAP DTCs: P0440 - P0441 - P0442 - P0443 - P0446 - P0453 - P0455 - P0456

Hope helps.

Make sure the 3 prongs (2 silver & 1 gold) line up to connect properly when you put it back in. I had to pullout the gold outside of where the bulb sits and slightly pull out the 3 in the actual lens to get a good connection. ***This is what makes the turn signal wireless... They have to be aligned and have contact****
