I have a 98 xj8 and it has been stood for 4 years
the datum marks on the eccentric bolt heads are to help reassemble when you have replaced suspension parts to make it easy to set up the camber/castor front wheel tracking you should make a note off the original settings before dismantling use the centre setting ie middle line to dot BUT THE FRONT CAMBER/TRACKINGCASTER SHOULD BE CHECKED ADJUSTED BY A SPECIALIST WITH 4 WHEEL ALIGNMENT KIT
Engine stall -- now it won't start won't steer
If Gas mixes with water, combustion is impossible. Not only is the fuel bad, the lines and spark plugs are messed up. Water will also mess up the electrical lines and the cars computer.
First, get some gasoline drying solution. That takes a day or two to work. When the water is removed from the gas tank, add fresh 100% gas. Pull all the spark plugs and clean the ends and check the gap for proper distance. Make certain the plugs are clean and dry before you reinsert them into the ports. Dry and clean all spark plug wires. Check you battery also. It should not have corrosion on the poles. If they have a coating, clean them and make perfect contact with the power cables. Try to start the engine now. Good luck.
Does anyone know how to
sounds like you have 2 probs if you turn ign on whilst holding valet button pressed it should cancel it if not the key is poss faulty
I have a jaguar xj8 and the gear got stuck in park.
Most likely the lock out switch at the brake pedal is at fault, because in order to put it in in to any gear you have to step on the brake first ! Their is a switch located which prevents you put it in gear with out stepping on the brake pedal, so check this switch first.
Do the #1 cylinder have to be up when setting the timing
do you mean ignition or valve timing? the ignition timing you cannot adjust it is ecu controlled. the valve timing has to be set by locking the crankshaft using a special locking tool that fits in place of the crankshaft position sensor located in the lower flywheel housing and keeps no.1 cylinder on tdc. and two locking bars bolted over the front of the camshafts to keep them in the correct positions, the camshaft sprockets are not keyed to the camshafts to allow adjustment. you need the special tools to carry out this operation, hope this helps.
1998 Jaguar wont rev past 4000 rpm
Check the spark plugs are the exact recommended specification.I have just replaced the plugs and coils on my 1996 Jag, and when I accelerated hard, the engine would shut off at 4000 revs, the engine check light would com on briefly and the tacho would jump about. Long story short, the recommended plugs were (NGK) BCPR6ES ( R for resistance), I put in BCP6ES (no resistance). When I put the old plugs back in, it was back to normal, when I stepped on kittys tail, it got angry real fast all the way to red line! Resistance spark plugs were originally to suppress electrical interference on the radio, modern engines also need to suppress electrical interference to the engine management system. http://www.ngksparkplugs.com/tech_support/spark_plugs/faqs/faqresistor.asp?mode=nml
Can't open truck
Trunk opener is electric. Try using key. Also, if electric OK, then push small button on back of trunk.
