check to see if you have corrosion in the fuse box or the GEM module, by removing the fuse box completely, disconnect the battery, take out the two screws and two 8mm bolts that hold the fuse box in, it will take some maneuvering to get it positioned right to disconnect the two wiring harnesses from the fuse box, they are bolted through the middle. Once removed, take the GEM module off the back of the fuse box and look for what would be something like the same corrosion you would see on your battery posts, usually one of these components is corroded and causing the problem, my buddy got a replacement fuse box for his from a wrecking yard for only 15 dollars, with all the fuses and relays. If you have this corrosion, then you probably have a windshield leak at the lower left hand corner of the windshield, it lets water drip onto the fuse box and GEM module. When they cut the cat out they may have damaged the wiring that goes to your fuel pump.When you turn the key on (not cranking) you should hear the fuel pump turn on for 1/2 second.That is the prime sequence. If you don't hear the pump run,check around where they cut out the cat.Chances are you will find cut wires. Any car/truck will run without a cat..but it will be loud!

I had the same issue on my 2001, it took 3 times and I really had to move with the key cycles ( only have 10 seconds for it ).

The other thing could be the fuse for the CSM ( Central Security Module ) is blown ?

if the engine light is flashing, it means you have a misfire in one or more cylinders. it is most likely plugs or coil wires.
mine started doing this a few weeks ago. finally got around to changing the plugs today. the cylinder order on fords is easy, passenger side from front to back is 1234, driver side front to back is 5678. my number 4 cylinder had a plug that was collapsed. the metal piece was crushed into the contact, not allowing any spark.

Three answers I can give one shift cable going from shifter to trans is broken at the end That connects two the coulm there not real cheap saying that I have been in the coulm of at lest 20 of them from 97 thru 2006 same problem 20 + more were broke were that end of the cable connects to the column in witch the column had to be replaced

indicates a problem in the harness to the rear harness cut wires , incorrect additions to harness possibly along the chassis or under body

I would suggest not the upper section is bolted by 4 bolts to the dash frame and there is a clamp on a spline section for the shaft that goes through the fire wall removing the wire harness connections , undoing the clamp and the 4 mounting bolts and the wheel section should pull of the splined section remember to remove the ignition key barrel and switch to put on the replacement unit or you will have immobilizer reprogramming problems

If there is a problem with the 3-4 solenoid then a check engine light would be on or the OD light would be flashing. Read the faultcodes and see what is there.

Do you have access to an ohmmeter? If so, can you read resistance to ground on the input wire of your DISCONNECTED temp. gauge?

Have you thought about flushing the transmission fluid cooler?

There are a few fuses for the trailer tow adapter.

1st, is theodd location on the 97-98, engine mini fuse panel has a 20 A fuse forthe stop / turn lamps. Have seen it covered in tape from the factory onsome 97-98 MY trucks.
This is on page 142 in the owners 1997 manual, all the revisions for the 1998 owners manual I have seen do not include this fuse box for some reason.

This is a picture of the Power Distribution Box, additional relay box and engine mini fuse panel with the covers off. The 20A in the upper right panel with the red base, is the trailer stop/turn fuse.

What makes you think fuel pump fuse is bad or the reset switch ? ( inertia fuel cut off switch ) Did you test for B+ volt or are you guessing ? Buy yourself DVOM - digital volt ohm meter an test the fuel pump electrical circuit ! Besides fuel there is also an ignition system , is there spark ? Norman, The ABS light is telling you there is a fault in the Anti Lock Braking system, could be faulty wire/plug,sensor, leaking/stuck wheel cylinder/caliper, etc. The computer in your vehicle will have to be scanned to find the fault, diagnosed and estimate repair.
