1997 Ford F150 loses power at say 45 mph. I have put spark plugs, plug wires, PCV, air filter.

Mileage over 150k? if so time to pull it fo a rebuild or examine the plugs an color and get back to me with a bit more info. The question is general that it could be that little inline fuel filter. Details please

Roof of cab repair 1997 F-150

those strips are called the ditches, where the panels are joined together. The material is supposed to stay soft. Under the sealer are spot welds where the panels are welded together.

Sealers
In addition to repairing the weld area, proper sealing of the joints is essential to a quality repair. Sealers are intended to prevent wind noise, water, dust and exhaust fumes from entering the vehicle and also perform as anti-corrosion barriers. Sealers need to be applied to such areas as door and rear compartment lid hem flanges, wheelhouse, quarter outer, floor, cowl, roof and various other panel-to-panel attaching points. The following joint sealers are recommended for use depending upon the application:
  • Brushable Seam Sealer - A sealer intended to restore the original brushed seam look. It is used to seal lap joints in sheet metal that are spot welded, such as on floorpans, cowls, trunk seams, etc.
  • Joint and Seam Sealer - A firm setting but flexible sealer for interior and exterior joints and seams.
  • Drip-Check Sealer - A heavy bodied sealer designed for use on exposed seams.
Sealers should remain flexible after curing and must be paintable. Follow the manufacturer's directions for use of materials selected.
Any damage to originally sealed joints should be corrected by resealing. Along with attaching points of new panels, open joints which require bridging of sealer to close a gap should be sealed using a heavy-bodied sealer.

1997 Ford F150 Electric Fuel Pump will npt pump

Did you check the fuel inertia switch in the passenger side kick panel ?

The fuel pump is powered :
the fuse to the fuel pump relay.
The fuel pump relay to the fuel inertia switch
The fuel inertia switch to the fuel pump itself.

At the fuel inertia switch in the kick panel, power from the relay is the Dark Green w/ Yellow stripe wire and the pink w/ black stripe wire is the power. from the fuel inertia switch to the fuel pump.

If you jumper the fuel pump relay, you should hear it run. If not pull the fuel pump relay, and check the pins in the relay socket, pin 30 should be the power from the fuse.

If you have power at pin #30, jumper the relay socket as shown with the red line above, and check the dark green w/ yellow stripe wire at the fuel inertia switch for power.
Press the button on the top of the fuel inertia switch, and check for power leaving the fuel inertia switch on the pink w/ black stripe wire.

This is tests good, check for power at the fuel pump, same pink w/ black stripe wire.
Fuel inertia switch info is in the owners manual, If you did not get an owners manual with your truck ( purchased used ), you can download one from Ford :

Windows won't roll up and down and wipers stopped

Do you know anything about automotive electronics ? The GEM - generic electronic control module is in charge of turning on the wipers an control the power windows . Would think this a fuse problem . Computer problem maybe , the first step in diagnosing a problem like this would be to hook up a factory or professional scanner an checking for DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes . Don't think about replacing the GEM module ,if you don't know how to test it's electrical circuits an check for codes . Can set a number of codes ! probably the switch in the t-case is sticking,.The switch is next to the rubber hose vent line coming off the t-case. It unscrews. they are about 25-30 bucks. Ten min or so for time to replace. I believe it's a Motorcraft SW-6251 but check with the auto store to insure a proper fit.

I have a 1997 Ford

Something you might find handy is a signal tracer (about $40) which can be used in the home or auto. It has 2 components and creates a signal into the wire which allows you to follow that signal down the wire to find the break. (Lowes, Home Depot) Has connectors for fuse panel holders. You do not want to directly jump 12 volts into the shift motor. The voltage the shift motor receives determines the length the solenoid extends to give you different functions. The 4x4 selector changes the voltage for each function. ONE thing you can check is the light bulb for the 4x4 selector knob. There have been reports on this site that a burned out light bulb can change the voltage for the 4x4 selector. Myself, it seems strange because the lightbulb is off until the headlights, etc. are turned on, so it would make no sense to effect the 4x4 selector during daylight. Since you have a duplicate shift solenoid you may be able to plug in the wiring harness and ground the extra shift solenoid to aid in diagnosing the problem. You could loosen up the fuse box holding these particular wires and check them on their backsides. Also check to see if there is a shift selector relay.
