2005 GMC Envoy XL Doesn’t start when cranking. No sound of engine attempting to start. Just complete silence when turning key to the crank position. Changed ignition switch and engine compartment miscellaneous fuse (125amp instrument panel battery) but still no start. After numerous attempts the engine has on three occasion started, but then dies after only a couple of seconds running. Key fob the locks and unlocks doors, automatic windows, radio and instrument panel lights all quit working at the same time as the non start issue. The check in fine light is on. Code reader would not detect codes. Tried reset procedure on the anti theft security, but since the security light on the instrument panel would not work I couldn’t do the reset procedure as it relates to the security light. At one point when the engine did start and then immediately die, I smelled an odor similar to hot wire (electrical) burning so I am reluctant to continue trying to start engine. Also, there is a drain on the battery as if something is drawing power from it. One more thing to point out. The anti theft security engaged (horn intermittently honking) sounded and I had to turn it off at the key fob just prior to the non start issue). I was outside the vehicle unlocking it when this happened. I then got in and started it and drove home. I was only home a few minutes and went to leave again when all these problems occurred. This leaves me questioning if perhaps the non start issue is related to the anti theft alarm being activated. This is why I attempted the security reset.

Plugging it into a diagnostic system or an OBD2 scanner could give you trouble codes as clues as to what's wrong. This will cost you for this service so shop around as price can be very different from company to company.. There are good mobile auto electricians out there who can come to you. Most modern vehicles have a built in immobilizer system. The ignition key and switch are part of it. Each ignition is coded to only that vehicle. By changing the switch you might have triggered this system and making it think that the vehicle has been stolen. If you have triggered the immobilizer and need to re-code the ignition you might have to go to a dealership to get it done.

My 2005 GMC Envoy has a high RPM and will take forever to shift gears it will not get passed 70 mph, i have to let go off the gas for it to change gears...any ideas?

Hi, with most vehicle there may be a problem that you can identify, yours may have a few issues. I think you would benefit from a visit to a trans specalist to check the box over then go from there once that issue is sorted or discounted as the cause of problems. Your description appears complex/compound...i.e. there are possibly a few things going on at the same time

I have a 2005 GMC Envoy Denali XL. just changed the starter, but the truck still gives me problem when starting. Auto Zone did a battery check and checked the following, BATTERY,ALTENATOR, AND STARTER

But it still cranks over at normal speed? If so, you need to begin by checking for gas and spark. Have the fuel pressure checked first, if less than specified, that is your problem. The spec for your GMC should be about 50 psi, maybe even as high as 60psi.

2005 GMC Envoy XL, i just bought one, the radio

As for the knobs, if you can pull them right off the unit just go to a scrap yard and pull some off a lower mileage vehicle, doesnt need to be the same exact one alot of gms will share the same parts. or try a site like this https://www.autozone.com/collision-body-parts-and-hardware/radio-knob/gmc/yukon-xl-1500

I have a 2006 Buick Ranier. The A/C fan will run

Yes, depending on if you have manual controls (Blower Motor Resistor) or automatic climate control ( Blower Motor Control Module), basically looks the same. Located on bottom of fan motor behind the glovebox. Need to remove plastic kick guard on bottom and look up. It's right there attached at bottom with 2 small screws. Must drop the glovebox door also, just release it down to get to the connectors into the blower itself.

Gas gage not working, gas tank seems full but it is not

You will need to remove the fuel tank from the truck and replace the fuel pump/fuel level sensor module that is inside the fuel tank. Use extreme caution when doing this as there is a real fire hazard.

GMC 2005 Envoy shifter stuck in park, car still moving

Sounds like a problem with the shifter linkage. A linkage is basically the mechanical connections (rods, nuts, bolts, swivels, etc.) between two points; one is local and the other is remote. Motion or movement of one results in the same movement of the other. Your shifter is the local point for you and the transmission is the remote. If the linkage is bent, broken or missing parts, the local shifter movement will not be transferred to the remote transmission. A mechanic should be able diagnose and repair this for you pretty easily. Good luck!

Headlights stay on when 2005 gmc envoy xl is off

Hello David..some GM vehicles have a feature called Twilight Sentinel which provides a couple of minutes of "headlight on" time after turning the vehicle off. (Check your owners manual for this features operating instructions.) If your headlights never turn off, the failure is most likely in the headlight switch as headlights are wired hot...meaning you can turn them on without the key in ignition.

05 gmc envoy denali car was running replaced old batt now car wont start

Hey Stephen,,does the car turn over or is it completely dead? If the engine, lights, horn don't work it your new battery. Test or have tested, your new batteries charge and its performance under load. If the battery is okay and all the connections are tight and secure and still no start..provide some more info on the no start vs no crank question. Does the engine turn over? Your owners manual might also provide some notes on changing the battery.
