would need to see it ,sorry but ford focus is showing for model and these earlier ones have a starter solonoid in the fuse board and its possible this has failed but dont ask me which one look in the manual and find it then test for current to the relay in case the switch on the back of the ignition lock has failed ,doesnt happen very often with the fords unlike a VW .But ? i have known the relay to fail on this model quite a few times .also check for the small wire that goes to starter motor ,its easy to do on a focus as the starter motor is at the front

I think your shifter cable broke go back to the linkage at the trans and find the bracket the cable attaches to and try to pull the cable through if you can it broke that's why I think the shifter lever is now all over the place also go to the bottom off the steering column it may have just come loose at the bracket inside the car good luck Adam you'll find it Stephen

GEM stands for generic electronic module ,has nothing to do with the engine . The power door locks are controlled by the GEM energizing relays ! lock unlock relays . unplugging the GEM will do nothing . Testing the vehicle electric's and checking for DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes is the first steps in diagnosing a problem of this type . Your best bet would be to take to a qualified repair shop . You have not the diagnostic tool or knowledge to diagnose this problem . Do yourself a favor before you make the problem worst . Messing with thing's you have no clue about can render your vehicle useless .

There is a hole in the plastic column cover on the bottom. This is the access to a spring loaded pin which keeps your keyswitch in the ignition hole. You may have a worn out key tumbler or the tumbler is loose in the housing and simply needs to be removed and reinserted to work again. A drill bit or thin hex wrench needs to be poked into that mentioned bottom hole to release the tumbler from the housing with a gentle pull.

Would you like to try an explain a little better ? If the engine doesn't spin when you turn the key to start ,what good would pouring fuel into the engine through the throttle plate? Plus if the engine does spin when turning the key to start why in heII would you bang on the starter ! I would say from your post you don't know a heII of a lot about cars ! No power to the glow plugs means no power to the light also. You have a bad fuse or connection to the glow plug relay. Fix that and your good to go. Has nothing to do with your indicator lights on either side of dash. Glow Plug power indicator is labeled THAT and only that.
