The first thing you can do is go to an auto parts store like NAPA, Pep Boys, or Autozone for example.
Ask them to scan your OBDII board to pull the error code(s).
Once they provide you with the code(s), they may be able to guide you to the specific problem.
You can also call around to area Ford dealers and see if they'll decipher the troubleshooting code(s); where I live- they want to make money on hooking up their readers- if you're lucky and can butter-up the service manager, maybe he'll tell you what the code(s) mean.
You can also buy an OBDII scanner for your car- there are some that may be in your budget- they usually come with support CD's. And there are a lot of online sites that you can get free and paid help from; like repair diagrams; step-by-step repair help. YouTube has some good videos too; and so does Autozone.
I have my own reader, it's an Innova 1403 Scan Tool; hope I've been helpful. Good lick on your project- please let me know how you made out.
