Hey Jeff it's possible that the battery in the fob is breaking contact with the battery contacts inside try squeezing the remote tightly with one hand and press the buttons with the other if it starts working you found it you must carefully bend out the contacts to make it fit tight and from opening the fob you could have made the case loose so also try putting a small piece of foam inside to make a tighter fit is this a fob with the key in it or do you have a separate fob from the key for the pats system I'll look it up and see but your post back will help also anything that's near the receiver will throw the signal off but I think it's the battery looseness that's doing it

ah on the outside of the car key less entry thingy make sure you dont shut the bonnet closed block of wood or something to stop the catch from closing undo both battery terminals to preserve the battery over night off to a ford service division its a parasitic draw somewhere in the charging system or you might be up for a new key pad . its .throw away item

run the fault codes shifting all over the place could be problem wiring/connections, TCM, ECM , transmission oil pressure , dirty oil, problem vacuum actuator, leaking vacuum hoses to actuator Check with a service center for the dip stick but Ford along with other manufacturers have done away with the dip stick take it to a specialist transmission service shop for a proper diagnosis but be wary if a new transmission is suggested It is working but not as it should which suggest mainly , wiring, or TCM problems
