common on older high mileage fors to either have the switch go out or the intank pump go bad, you cang ground terminal 6 on the underhood diag plug with key on engine off and switch from front to rear or vice versa and listen for fuel pumps to be running, likely one is not
I'm sorry, a 1994 does not have a limp mode. If you have exploded the sprag and the transmission is full of debris, it's time for a rebuild or replacement.

More information please. What engine is fitted? What Exactly does it do when you turn the key? This will give clues to what the problem could be.
A very slow cranking speed? Normal cranking speed but not trying to start at all? Cranks normally, tries to start but stalls out immediately?
