My 1999 polaris explorer will not go into 4 wheel drive. The speedometer also does not work. I am told that it wil not go into 4 wheel drive if the speedo does not work. If this is the case can I bypass the expensive speedo?

If your speedometer is broken then your AWD will not work. You can do 2 things

1. Replace the Speedometer
2. Remove the 6 pin plug from your speedometer
On the plug, short the brown/Brown White wires together and
tape it up good.
Do not reconnect the plug.
You will lose the function of the speedometer but your AWD will work.

You need to change the speedometer, the four whel drive runs through it. their is no getting around it. Check ebay you can probably pick one up fairly cheap.

Check the wiring in the front where the oil tank is and take off the hub caps and check for damege check the 4 wheel drive switch it mite be bad they cost a round 20 or 30 dollars
